I think the age differs for every child. I think DS was two. One night I had run out of nappies, so I didn't put one on him...got him to go to the potty before he went to bed, and he woke up in the morning dry. So we just never put nappies on at night again, and just expected him to go to the potty first. We also tried to limit drinks before bed, to make that easier.

The way we went with it was - if there was no nappy on, he couldn't do anything in it. So it was undies, or a bare bum. I think it is a lot more unpleasant for them to wet their pants/bed, than it is to wet a nappy. So the message gets across pretty quickly. I think in the last year or so, we've only had maybe 3 accidents in bed, and they have only been when he hasn't gone to the toilet before bed.

If she is TT during the day, it shouldn't be much of a stretch to extend it to night. Just take the leap...take away the nappies and have a chat about what happens and see how you go. She might surprise you! Good luck!

We made sure we took her to the toilet right before bed. DD has been night trained for nearly a year and that is still part of our routine.

I also put a plastic cover on her bed. That way, if she did have an accident (and she did of course as all kids do) I only had to change the sheets and her matress was kept clean.

We also put a little potty in her room with a night light, so if she ever needed to go thru the night it was there.

We also limit drinks say after 6pm (bedtime at 7). That way by the time it's bed and she goes to the toilet beforehand that pm drink has left her system.

Personally, I think that children will be night dry when their minds and bodies are ready, and it's not something that you can teach them.

My DS is nearly 4, and has been day "trained" for 2 years, but he is still wet most nights. I'm not worried at all - he'll be dry at night when all the connections between his brain and his bladder are in place (just like they need to be for day dryness as well).

Being wet for a long time at night can also be hereditary - my youngest brother was wet at night until he was 10, so it won't surprise me at all if my DS is similar.

For me, it's one of those things that is really too hard to fight, it will happen when it happens.

She was day trained by 2.75 years, although it was a battle. She was night dry within about two months after that. For my DD, she knew how to go, she just didn't want to, so when she starting going to the toilet it was only another couple of months until being completely tted. Once she decided to go it was full steam ahead

I do agree that you have to sit back a bit and let them set the pace. Once I backed off, she went herself, the little monkey . Maybe you could give it a go, and if he wets the bed a few nights in a row you can pop him back in naps?

    Hi there,

I think the key is getting the nappy off them. Annika will be three in July; what we did was buy several incontinence pads (Buddies Bedpads, look on ebay) to protect the bed, and just took her nappy off.

She goes to the toilet before bed, and we wake her to go to the toilet just before we go to bed. It took her a month or two, but now she is dry most nights.

(We do the toilet thing rather than limit drinks because a glass of warm milk after her bath (and before her teeth) is an important part of her bedtime routine).

Still early days yet, though - my GP tells me its unusual for a toddler to be dry at night before they are 3.

Hi there, I am stil having trouble with my DD as she is nearly 5 and still wetting, we went for over a year without a wet bed then my husband and I went away for the night to a wedding last Nov and every night except for maybe 3, she has wet, even if she has a nappy on or not and if we limit fluids prior to bed, she goes to the toilet before bed and even if we took her again to the toilet when we went to bed!!

DD1 just stopped wetting her nappy. I remember saying to DH I think she is dehydrated as she is dry after all those hours. After 6mnths I realised she had just become night trained all by herself She was 2yrs old.
DS is 2.5 and he is day trained but not night trained. I will guide him in a few months
