Default Anyone used 'the contented little baby book' from birth?

Was given 'the contented little baby book' by two mum friends who have used bits and pieces out of it and swear by the bits they've used.

One used the expressing regiegm with great success and another implemented the sleep routine very stricly for a week to switch her son from being a day sleeper to a night sleeper with great success.

Was just wondering if anyone out there has tried to implement her routines from day dot and how well does it really work on a newborn?

    Default Contented children!

Hi. I have used this book - in parts - with all my 3 children. I think what is important is that you CAN use it in parts. For me, I used it purely as a sleep thing - ignored all the expressing details etc - just try to limit your baby's sleep as suggested and feed the baby at roughly the times suggested. It does mean waking a sleeping baby often though! My eldest is just 4 and my youngest 5 months and all 3 sleep 7 till 6.30 with a good lunch time nap. My eldest was a nightmare until 3 months when I first introduced this routine and then roughly applied it to the others. I would say though, with a new baby don't try and do it too quickly - demand feed for a couple of months and then try the routine. Good luck and don't be too hard on yourself - it's tough work at first and doesn't work for every family.

I read this book but it wasn't for me - it seemed very regimented ( but I guess that's the point!! )

I don't like the idea of having to be home at a certain time because it's DD's naptime etc. She was a pretty easy baby though and she coped well with sleeping in the pram while out (and basically a lack of routine). When she was tired, she slept wherever we were, when she was hungry, I fed her... I ignored the clock and tried to "listen" to the baby.

She has always been a good nighttime sleeper but if she hadn't been, I guess some sort of sleep routine might have been helpful.

Life may not always be the party we hoped for but since we are here, we might as well dance.
