    Default Gastro Question

    Hi there
16 month old DD was vomiting throughout the night last night so we took her to medical centre at 5.30am this morning. We were told she had gastro and an ear infection. We were given Cilamox for the ear infection and hydralite for the gastro (nothing else you can really give them). Dr also said to avoid dairy and give her crackers, dry toast, etc.

My question is - when can I give her dairy again? She went nuts tonight as I didn't give her her milk! She hasn't thrown up all day so I'm thinking that maybe tomorrow will be safe. I should have asked the doctor this, but only thought about it just now. Have had a hard day with sick bub and DH home sick with a 'man cold'.

Has anyone got any advice? I realise you are not doctors but thought you may have some experiences to share with me?

    Thanks.....

Sorry to hear about your situation, not good at all. I cant talk from experience but if it was that hard on her by holding the milk back...maybe introduce it in small quantities and keep her intake of toast up. When we were younger as kids in our family, toast was the best cure. I wouldnt necessarily give up dairy altogether since kids need that nutrition...thats what I think anyways. There used to be a hotline that you could call to speak to a nurse...I cant remember if it was 1300 or 1800 nurse. If she hasnt vomited then shes probably already on the mend.
Hoping she gets better real soon. Its aweful when you have to go to the drs that early in the morning.

    hiya,

bland bland bland food until the throwing up stops. Stuff like dry toast, dry biscuits, then slowly introduce the spreads again that you would usually have. As for milk, I agree with PP in that you water down the milk as dairy really upsets the stomach and bottom end.

Lots of water and a bit of juice to keep the sugar up.

When the ear infection gets better chances are your DD will be feeling so much better and hoepfully by that time the worst of the gastro would have made its way out.
