    Default Ttts

Did anyone suffer the acute form of Twin to Twin Transfer Syndrome with their identical twins? I did and one baby was smaller and was wondering if anyone else had the same experience and if the small one "catches" up?

    Thanks for the reply Alison.
My girls are now 14 weeks since their birth and the difference is more than a kilo. The smaller one has finer features, but looks similar to her sister. They were born at 34 weeks. The big one weighed correct for 34, but the little one was only weighing at 28 weeks. We were worried about neurological problems, but pred. said her head circumference has grown and she is feeding much better.

It is so nice yours are little individuals. I can already see the different personalities coming thru with my girls.

    Hi Catt,

Congratulations on becoming a twin mummy.

You did well to get to 34 weeks.

Ben and Matthew were born at 32+1 due to TTTS which was diagnosed at 15 weeks.

There is still a weight discrepancy and apparently sometimes there is always a weight discrepancy.

How much do your girls weigh now and how are they generally? How are you doing?

Time for me to attempt to rekindle a dead thread!

I've just had it explained that my twins have suffered from severe TTTS in their early development, leading to the passing of the smaller twin.

Just wondering if anyone else here in BH has also suffered a loss from TTTS, or knows more about the laser surgery that can be performed to save the remaining baby.

    Hi,

While we didn't end up with TTTS with our girls we were told at our Nuchal Translucency scan there was a risk with Twin 2/B as she was measuring smaller at that stage. By 16 weeks there still was a slight concern although she had grown some. At the time of the NT we were in Sydney and explained to the OB at the ultrasound place we would be in Brisbane for our 20week scan visting my folks for Christmas, he advised our best bet was to make our 20 week ultrasound appt with Prof Cincotta at QLD Ultrasound for Women as he has done the laser surgery you mentioned. As it turned out we had no problems but was very reassuring to have him do our scans. I also looked into the surgery on the net and Prof Cincotta and felt much happier about everything when reading about what he has done.

Not sure if this has helped or not....sorry

Thanks so much leanne. He is the Dr I am to see on the 12th, at the same practice.

I already saw Dr Jacqui there, and she was lovely and helpfull, but apparently TTTS normally happens later in the pregnancy than what we have experienced and we are again 'unique' and 'interesting'

    Hi Izzy

yes, I went through the surgery nearly 8 years ago, done by Dr Challis in Sydney (when it was still experimental surgery in Australia) , was told at 12 weeks I had twins, at 19 weeks my world came crashing down when I was told they were suffering TTTS and one (Robert) was expected to die any day. My OB had met Dr Challis at a conference, and managed to get me to see him and get a surgery 3 days before Christmas, and I fortunately had successful surgery.

Carried the surviving twin (Daniel), until 38 weeks, and he was born by C section, and is now 7. (delivered Robert the same time too, as obviously they both remained within until birth)

Only too happy if you want to PM me to discuss further, as it was a long road, and would be happy to be a shoulder to lean on

    Good luck

    Linda

    Hi Izy

I have a close friend who was pregnant with triplets ... i set of identical and 1 extra ... who had ttts (with the id ones obviously).

They found out at 19 ish weeks ... and twin B (Tyler ) died at about 20 weeks. She was told it was likely that she would lose all of them.

She had the laser surgery to repair the hole, and went on to carry the other 2 bubs to 36 weeks. They are now 15 months, and very healthy and happy.

She was in Perth when she had the babies, but is now in Brisbane.

If you would like, pm me and I will put you in contact with her. She would be very happy to talk to you about the surgery and help if she can.

    Thanks so much ladies!
I have also put myself in contact with a TTTS support group and am building my support network.

I could never deal with all this on my own and appreciate all your help!

Hello Izy, I was the original poster . My girls are now 10 months old and still there is a weight difference but apart from that they are all good. I am so sorry about your situation and am sending prayers your way
I am on the gold coast and was monitored very closely by dr cincotta. He is very thorough and will take good care of you.
