Hmm the coffees don't help, butI know how they are needed at a time like that.
If you have put AD meds in your system, then I can't see your concern with natural stuff!! Goodness, its far better for you than synthetic drugs!! And you will never know till you try it. Either a naturopath or Chinese Medicine - they really know what is going on with your system. I couldn't have got through the last few years without it. Miss my guy in Melbourne so much![]()
I'm in the perimenopause stage and finding I get blacker and blacker each month and usually over some trivial thing that tips me. Used to be anger, now it's just hopeless black sorrow that can last about 5-10 days but does come and go. Fish oil and exercise help. Think this big move hasn't helped either, but have booked a ticket back home later in the year, so that is something to look forward to!
Glad you have got off the meds thoughHope things continue to go well for you (especially if there was no fudge!)
I tried magnesium suppliments and they are great they get rid of cramps and mood swings ,who would think a little pill could work such wonders and its not a drug either lol
I think Monday can tend to be a horrible day !
My sympathies
My mood swings have gotten better since i got rid of the Implanon but it has left me with anger .... A lot of it .... Now to sort that out !
I would definitely give a naturopath a go![]()
I would try some evening primrose, and vit B....but some chocolate and wine would be fine
take care![]()
You know what, I deserve better. I will stand up and out of your shadow, I will feel the wind in my wings, I will learn to fly, you can stay and enjoy my freedom or leave, either way I was born to fly.
Thank you ladies. I'll have a think about naturopathy, but I'd rather work first on my general diet, remember to actually take my multi-vitamin & iron supplement, and find a yoga course. Gee, this feels like a new years resolution. I hope it sticks better.
Anna, I'll send you the fudge recipe. It's fantastic & easy.
LCM - how did you figure out that you were perimenopausal. Can you PM me?

hi, i havent read all the posts so i hope i'm not doubling up.
i used to suffer from horrible mood swings with AF. your body is missing some basic ingredients to help it and your emotions run smoothly.
firstly you need some omega's, fish oils etc.
and you need some zinc and some magnesium. these three ingredients will turn your life around.
they did mine.
i think it took about a month of taking them (when your body is very difficeint in magnesium or zinc or omega 3,6,9 it takes some time to build it back up again,)
magnesium is what keeps us calm (also relaxes muscles) so if you're lacking it your nervous system feels shot. you're anxious, frazzled, etc. zinc is brilliant for regulating hormones (which let's face it the arrival of AF is all about!) it helps with healing and with fertility. omega 3 - depression and other mood disorders
omega 6 - fluid retention and bloating associated with PMT
this is not something you can nip off to the health food store and self administer. you need to go to a qualified naturopath. they will give you doses far higher than you'll get in your off the shelf blackmores brand. and you need to be individually assessed for your own issues.
i did this five years ago and it was the best thing i ever did. no longer does the beast come out and grab me around PMT time, i'm not angry anymore and i'm not teary and i'm not a woman on the edge.
get thee to a naturopath (they will also work out how to be safe with the antidepressant meds your on).
dont self administer though.
you dont know what will and wont mix with your current medication.
always see a qualified person prior to starting any new treatments etc.
good luck!
honestly it changed my life!!

Save the last dance for me...
Hi M,
I just wanted to send you some. I'm nearing the end of this cycle and although I'm down and out atm, I'm not as bad as what I usually am. The differences this month are that I'm taking a general multi-vitamin as well as a multi-vitamin designed to 'help relieve the symptoms of PMS', coupled with starting exercising with a personal trainer once a week. I think the vitamins are really helping me and the exercise is giving me a great chance to get all that pent up frustration out.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone![]()
Hey M...Don't want to sound pushy - but a naturopath would also help you work on your diet
Is there a super-practice around you somewhere? You know, somewhere where there are a lot of allied health professionals? You might be able to access all the health care professionals you need in one location, and they'd probably be able to do a combined case care with you, all working together for the same aim of helping you stabilise your moods and hormones...worth looking into
Hope you're feeling a bit better today (Did DH leave you any fudge??)

Lulu, I'm not having a dig at you, just using your statement as a reference. Because it's exactly these sorts of statements that make me really cautious about what I take. Magnesium, and other minerals, vitamins and other 'natural' products may not be thought as of drugs, but that doesn't mean that high (or extra) doses of them are necessarily safe or even needed. My DH thought it was good to take high doses of Vitamin C to fend off colds... and then he got kidney stones. St Johns Wort is a 'natural' treatment for depression. I think it made me worse when I briefly tried it.
So I take a women's multi-vitamin, when I remember. And I take iron because I wound up with no iron stores after starting to donate blood in 2007. But unless a blood test can show me that I actually have low levels of something, I'm going to have a really really hard time trusting any naturopath who tells me that I need to take extra of this or that, especially high doses.
I know what's wrong with my diet! Chips, chocolate, cookies, fudge & fat.Less of those, and more dairy, fruit, veg & red meat.
So I thank everyone for their suggestions of a naturopath, and I will keep it in mind. But as I said, it's nowhere near my first point of call and I'll be back to my GP to get a few blood tests before seeing a naturopath.
Tami - DH left me 4 little pieces of fudge.I had one, and am going to see whether I can last out the week on the other three!
