Default Any moving tips for me?

DF leaves for re-entry on the 22nd so Ive just started going through all our stuff while he's still here so I dont throw out anything he wants to keep lol

Does anyone have any moving tips for me for when were posted to Wagga?

How did you find Toll transistions when you moved? were they good?

any tips would be appreciated as this is the first time ive done this...Or moved this far away (9 hours from our current home) either.

    Hi Pennylane,

good luck with your removal to Wagga. How exciting. When u arrive at your new location, it would be a good idea to get the removalists to unpack general goods (basically everything they pack) so u can see whether anything has been broken in transition, that way u will be able to claim for any breakages. We have always had great service from Toll transitions. DHA have been less then helpful, sometimes, but that depends on the individual. I found that when we moved to Cairns our removals case manager wasn't the most helpful but when we got here, the DHA people were just wonderful. And that was a move from Victoria to Cairns.

Are u driving or flying there? We have always drove, just because to us it is like a bit of an adventure. It sounds so corny, i know.

U pretty much only have to pack personal belongings. You will probably get some cartons from Toll a few weeks before u move. Anyway take it easy, cheers Sam

Great stuff. Have you done all the paperwork for DHA and lodged the inventory yet ? That's the first step and you can do your inventory online if you haven't already.

You should get a pre-removal survey to make sure what is on the inventory is correct but also it's more for sizing and to decide on how many containers ie one or two.
Once you've had that done you can have yoru boxes anytime after that (so we were told) but we were like months ahead so if it's a month prior, give Toll a ring to say you want your boxes.

At the new locality we usually get the removal guys to unpack our valuables/breakables ie tv/video/dvd players, crockery, glasses etc for the reason samsgirls mentioned .. so you can claim if they are broken. The removal guys write that down on their copy of the inventory too.

We usually fly to our destination as our car wouldn't make it and i'm the only driver cos DH doesn't have a license. grrr

I would LOVE to have the experience of driving and seeing our beautiful country. I think my son will end up sharing the driving when we do Australia lol.

It's very exciting moving and seeing new places before settling into the dulldrums of life and routine again.

    Thanks for the tips guys.

DF has to do his basic training again first so weve been told by some people and then told he hasnt by others and he's supposed to leave on the 22nd and we call them every day and his case manager is always out or on a day off and no-one else will give us any info.VERY FRUSTRATING!

so Just in case they turn around and tell him were all moving together shortly and he's not doing basic training again ive printed out all the inventory paperwork myself and were doing it tonight. Since weve recieved absolutely nothing from DHA I want to be ready.

Were supposed to find out whats going on come Monday at 8:30am so fingers crossed everything gets sorted then so I know whats actually going on lol.

I 'think' we will be flying only because it will be just me and my dd and I havent had my licence for very long and ive never driven that long a distance. But we'll see what happens.I might try it.

Pack your remotes yourself!!! We didn't and now have a completely useless digital set top box. Toll will not replace either as we are supposed to pack ourselves, (apparently). This is despite their contractor packing them before we had finished our priority items.

If you have an issue report it straight away or Toll will pretty much suggest right to your face that you are trying to rip them off.

In our case we reported it two weeks after moving in, (on the Monday after the Saturday we tried to set it up, when we noticed the remote was missing).

And DO NOT let the removalists leave until all your electrics are in place and set up so they can note everything.

Sorry to sound so sour. Am still battling away on this one.

So glad your getting organised. We're still trying to get things done

Definately try and get your inventory done nice and early.

Toll transitions are normally great but the last bunch we dealt with didnt really pack very well so we'll be keeping an eye on things that get unpacked when we finally get a new place.

Try and get things cut off like pay tv nice and early, our box got lost then Foxtel tried to charge us over $300 because their courier didnt pick up the box like we arranged.

And try to take the moving experience as a chance to get rid of any extra junk that you have. We were quite brutal on our second move.

Good luck with it all hope things go well
