Oh Andee - your definitelyl not on your own!

I'm 23, have a 10 month old son and am married to a Navy man. We live in Coogee and hubby is land-based at Garden Island (Potts Point) but his ship is in Melbourne in refit at the moment (HMAS Ballarat). He left on Friday and is gone for 6 weeks

All my family are interstate; as are all my REALLY good friends. That said, since Jedd came along I've met quite a few defence women in my area, and just other women in life itself. Its good to have defence wife friends though; they seem to understand what life in the ADF is like a lot more than civvie friends. Nothing against my civvie friends - but they cant really be expected to know what its like to be on your own for months at a time with minimal contact with your partner.

    anyhoo - thats enough rambling

    Surprise due mid September

    Hey joshysmummy,

My DH is in the Army, Its pretty tough at times but we are pretty lucky in the same token.

He is off in two weeks for 3 weeks, then home for a week then gone for 3 months.

Which really sucks, he will miss alot again this year.

He was away nearly my whole pregnancy last year, and got back on leave the day b4 dd2 was born, then gone for the first 10 weeks of her life.... Hardest 8 months of my life!!!

But he is home now... which is what matters now.

    Take care

    Hi Andee,
I'm a Navy spouse and have been playing the single mum things on and off for 13yrs now. DH was duty today (sunday) and will sail for 2wks .. come back and then gone for a month come back and then off again for about 6mths.

Anyhow, we don't usually have family around either all are interstate and as for friends, I left a good bunch back in Wattle Grove and since then .. Darwin. Now I'm trying to make new friends here in Rockingham WA but honestly... eek it ain't easy. What I recommend is having a good friend you can trust your kids with etc in case of emergency. Once you have that, you feel a little more comfy in your locality when DH is away.

I too like to have defence spouses as friends as well as civvies. The support is always there with defence where as civvies (unless it's mining spouses) just don't get it. Although one of my dear friends back in WG isn't defence and she's one of my best buddies.

Sorry to hear your DH went away in those first 10 wks of your dd2's birth. The early months are indeed hard ones but what doesn't breaky you, makes you stronger. Being a mum, you have to be strong for those little cherubs

I have made almost no defence friends since we got here but have some awesome civilian friends.
Its so hard at times to be the woman behind the man, DH just came back from 7 months in the ME
There are a few of us Defence wives here on BH so I'm sure they'll always be someone if you need to talk

    Ciao,
    Brooke.

    Hi Andee.
    I'm 23 and have 2 girls who are 3.5 and 16 months.
My Dh is in the army and we live out near Holsworthy army base in Sydney.
Its' hard when they go away. Even for little bits at a time.
    Where is Glenmore park?
I don't have many defence friends either. Well mainly just one. And my other friends are spread around Australia so it gets lonly at times.
Pm me if you ever want to chat.

    Hi Andee,

my name is Sam and i have two little girls 3 and 14 months. My DH is in the Navy and we live in Cairns. He is currently away and will be home in 8 days. I can't wait to see him. I love the lifstyle for sure, but I do get quite lonely at times. Especially weekends, when everyone else is busy. And as EandN mentioned, most of my friends are spread all over the country. Anyway take it easy.
