Cancelled first cycle

Hi All


I am new to this site as well as very new to ivf. So i thought this would be a good place to start to help me understand what is happening to me!!

I have just commenced my first cycle on ivf and have only made it to the first scan (7 days on Puregon) to be told that i had not responded to the drugs and I had absolutley no follicles!

Given that mine and my husband situation was a little different from most, we had both gone in to ivf very positive. He is 49 and has had a vasectomy and I am 34 with a history of endometriosis which has not long been removed via surgery. Although we haven't been trying to concieve naturally at all due to our circumstances we always felt that when we were ready that ivf would help us to achieve a baby.

My dr has shown a lot of surprise in that i haven't responded to the drugs, we have also discovered in this process that I have a low ovarian reserve, and it seems that the dr is suggesting i may have early menopause!

I am devastated to say the least! I had no idea that anything was wrong with my body, other than the endo, to look at me I am very healthy, I don't smoke or drink ect and I am very active with a normal cycle.

After 7 days of injections my dr has decieded to cancel the cycle! Has anyone else gone through this? and if so what has been your experience/outcome?

I feel like this dr thinks I am the too hard basket case becasue I don't fit in with the "90%" of women who respond and rather than try and help me would rather throw his hands up in the air and so can't help you.

We have been attending the City Fertility Clinic at John Flynn, is there anyone who has had expereince with these guys as well??

I dont have any advice nor have I been through a canceled cycle. I just wanted to offer you some I'm sure u will find a lot of useful information here and the ladies are a fantastic support system.

well i have had a failed cycle back in November I had a chemical pregnancy, I then had to cancel my next cycle because it fell too close to christmas. I then started again in january only to discover that i had not ovulated and so had to cancel another cycle. I then missed a period !! I have now just started my hormone preparation for a frozen transfer cycle. I know exactly what you are going through, it is the hardest thing I have ever done and so my thoughts are with you.

7 days does not sound long enough to give up and cancel? What dose did he have you on? I always have a bad response too....my FS had my on 450 Purgon the last cycle and we only got 4 eggs in the end....

I would suggest asking him why you couldn't try something else?

There are other FSH you can try....we are trying Gonal F next time....some of the ladies on here have injected for over 3 weeks before having a EPU so it does sound a bit odd that he has cancelled , but I am not a doctor so I don't know why.....

Sorry darl this must be really frustrating, I too have endo and I am going in for another Lap before our next cycle, I have also changed clinic's but that is because my doctor did, she is fantastic, we use to be with city fertility centre in Brissy but are now with Qld Fertility group...

Hi Jakysmum,

I too am a slow responder to the stims. I was on 300ml gonal f for 5 days with nothing showing. My doc then upped it to 600 ml (a lot!) for 2 days, 4 small follicles showded up. The nurse told me that my cycle may be cancelled if I didnt have anymore follices in 4 days. I was devastated of course, and my Easter was all but ruined. 4 days later on 600 gonal each day, my next scan showed still only 4 follicles. I told my doc what the nurse had said and he was appalled, he said he wouldnt cancel my transfer with 4 follicles.... My OPU is tomorrow, so my fingers are crossed that all 4 will be ok.

I think it depends on each doctors protocol on whether they will continue/cancel and cycle, but as a fellow slow responder, I would be unhappyp if my cycle was cancelled after only 7 days!

My thoughts are with you for your next.

Hi there,

I have just got back from my clinic and my body has 1 more week to prove it can produce decent eggs. I have been injecting since 14/3... so 13 days so far and i have 1 more week! I am so sad you were cancelled......that sucks! I only have 4 eggs that would be viable for collection.

I hope you are staying positive and come onto the hub and ask ANY questions. xoxoxoxo

That’s not good to hear about the doctor cancelling your cycle. When do you get to try again? Next month? What dosage were you on of puregon?
I am also on my first cycle of IVF and went for my first blood test yesterday, day 7 of injecting and got a phone call saying the results were more than good and had to come in first thing in the morning. So I woke up early this morning, very excited for my ultrasound and I couldn’t wait to hear when my EPU was going to be. But the look on the nurses face soon took that good feeling away, apparently the drugs are working TOO WELL! I was cleared today but just by one follicle but have to go back on Friday for another scan and then they will decide what they want to do, weather to cancel or schedule my EPU. I haven’t been taken off the drug or even given a reduced amount so hopefully they know what they are doing and I dont get a cancelled cycle. Fingers crossed!

So whats next for you, did the doctor explain that?
