Ipswich Public Hospital?

Does anyone have experiences at the Ipswich hospital they could share with me? Good or bad, any stories would be appreciated.

Two good friends and myself have all have our previous babies at the Mater Mothers but have since all moved closer to Ipswich! Is it worth trying to get back into the Mater? What was it like at Ipswich?

I had DS in December 2006 at Ipswich hospital. I honestly cannot complain one little bit about that hospital. The care and the midwives were fantastic. I would of had DD there aswell but moved to Perth due to Hubby's work.

I can't complain - most of the midwives were lovely and really went out of the way to help.

I had a great birth!

I have been doing my care through the clinic there this time and its been fantastic. I am having some difficulties with the pregnancy, and have been referred to some other hospital doctors and they have been prompt about everything and ensuring I am knowing whats going on.

I was born there!

My aunty gave birth a couple years back there with both her children.

Ive never heard anything negative about and my aunty has no complaints

I had both my babies there and was very happy

The food isn't excellent. Its ok, but I stuck to sandwiches for most meals

The service was great.

I had both my girls there and my sister has and will have her kids there and my cousin's girl is having hers there. In fact, I know heaps of women who have had kids there and no complaints (well, apart from the ones everyone has about little aspects of the birth itself) but the care was excellant with all of us.

I have had 4 children and there and don't have a complaint at all.

Thanks everyone! Sounds like everyone has had good experiences there.

What are the rooms like that you stay in once the baby is born? I heard every room has it's own bathroom? How many women to a room?

I've visited a friend there on two occasions but the first was 8/9 years ago and she had the whole room to herself and I don't really remember it. Then two years ago in May she was there but she was in her own room again because she had twins!

I think most rooms are 2 women per room with a shared bathroom between them but if you are lucky there are single rooms with own bathroom as well.

I had DD there, and was born there myself.

I don't have anything to compare it to, because that's the only time I've ever been a patient in hospital... but it was pretty good. Food was rubbish - but I just sent my visitors downstairs to get me something from the kiosk. For lunch, I made sure I ate the sandwiches... nothing else was nice. lol. Breakfast was okay too. It was just dinner that was pretty much like eating mushy flavourless nothing...lol.

The staff were different. Some were absolutely horrid and made me cry because they were so mean... some were just average and weren't overly nice or mean, just doing their job...but the student midwife I had to look after me for each day after I had DD (it was like she LIVED there...lol... she was ALWAYS around and ALWAYS helping me), she was lovely.

I was scared of her at first because she was some young attractive blonde girl... and I was just scared of getting my gross boobies out in front of her, or asking her to help me shower (that's embarrassing enough anyway, without having some girl who's like 10x hotter than you helping you out), but she was absolutely lovely.

I wish I could remember her name because she was brilliant, and I would have loved to have sent her flavours for making my stay there so wonderful.

As for rooms, I shared a room. I think most were shared rooms (I had a caesarean, and as part of my recovery, I tried to walk around the halls of the maternity ward... so I got to be a bit nosy and peek inside rooms as I walked by...lol). There were a few rooms with FOUR beds in them, but I was lucky and shared with 1 other woman. Well, more than 1 because I stayed in hospital for a week (a few days before DD, a few days after), and so those women came and went. One was absolutely lovely - I loved talking to her. It was kinda nice having someone there when you need to pee or shower or whatever... they can call out to you if your bubba cries, or buzz a nurse or something.
