Default Tips Please for Weightloss by Mid-April

    Hey all

I've foolishly just jumped on the scales to find that since returning to NZ last July I've put on 8kg!
We're going back to Sydney on April 15 and I really, really, REALLY want to get back to pre-NZ weight before I see all the inlaws again!

    I have a few q's -

What are the best foods to eat for weightloss? I have alot of fruit and vegies but what foods (besides the obvious) should I avoid?
What fruits are better than others?
What time of the day is best for exercise?

Any tips at all would be HUGEly appreciated ! (no pun intended..)

I think the best diets are low gi based. If you only have 8 kgs to lose then it should be at your goal weight very quickly.

You should have between 950 - 1200ish calories a day. Dont go less than 950 or you wont lose weight.

Vegies to avoid are potatoes, pumpkin (however butternut pumpkin is ok if its steamed or boiled), sweet potato, corn. Basically everything else is fine but green vegies are the best

Fruit to avoid are Watermelon, rockmelon, peaches, sultanas, paw paw, apricots, cherries. Alot of these have med gi values but if you want to lose weight I would stay away.

General food to avoid would be rice, pasta, bread, cereal as they are all high in carbs however its important to get some carbs a day. If you buy sauces (tomato sauce, gravy, chicken tonight etc) try and get it so it has no more than 5g per 100g of carbs or not much over.

I would only have red meat 1 - 2 times a week and try and eat both fish and chicken. A good rule to stick to is a palm size piece of meat.

For dairy, obviously get everything that is lite.

The most important is no caffine. Caffine raises your metabolism but when it goes to the liver it inhibits the liver to break down fat.

    Hope this helps

I agree with everything "LookMumNoHands" has said... but the most important thing is to get out there and exercise. Like they say, all it takes is half an hour, 15 minutes in the morning and 15 at night if you dont want to do it all in one hit. It really does help!

I have a fair bit of weight to loose and im following these basic principals and its starting to fall off me.

    Good luck!

I saw a dietician and his diet was a Low fat and Low Sugar diet. Pretty easy diet to follow. To lose the weight a little faster then I suggest lots of exercise, some high impact cardio (I use workout DVDs for that) combined with maybe some walking.

I lost on average 1.5kgs a week by doing this!

I agree with what the other girls are saying about what to eat. Although I never knew caffine could stop fat breakdown (I love love my morning coffee)
Exercise wise, try and do a weights work out approx 3 times a week. Lifting weights raises your metabolism hours after working out, therefore burns fat. Combine that with some cardio and a diet of low gi unprocessed food and you are sure to say goodbye to those kilos very quickly.
