    Default and exercise?

I just read a news article...

    http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23344220-2,00.html

the sentence that caught my eye was :

"If you exercise too much, you lose your breast milk."

what? really? what are the mechanisms involved here?

Without reading the artical, I'd be guessing they're saying if you stress your body too much you loose your supply. I imagine they'd be talking about more than your average amount of exercise (Just imagining me running a marathon with big bf'ing floppy boobs doing a baywatch)

i think that the combination of dieting and exercise, thats needed to loose weight fast, for mums who want to be prebaby shape quikly can effect your supply. you cant deprive your body of the nutrients/calories it needs to make calorific milk

its my excuse not to over do exrecise anyways

Over-excercise and under-eating combined can lead to dysmenorrhea (loss of periods) which is obviously therefore affecting your reproductive hormones - and the same thing could potentially have an effect on your breastmilk. Although where a mother would find the time to do that much exercise, I don't know

My milk was very sensitive to excersize while feeding DS4, which worked well becasue I don't enjoy excersise that much, but love breast feeding.

Yes we notice the same after I have been at the gym. DS was really bad but dd2 we have noticed when I exercise she seems not as full.

exactly.. although 2 is a boy, so maybe they just eat more than girls in general?

I started exercising about five months ago.. I only get two hours a week to myself.. I spend them with a PT. So it's not excessive exercising..

    Interesting.. thanks.
