Default Dinner a nightmare for 1 year old....

Arghhh, I have posted a few times to try and get some ideas on foods for my DD, but I am now tearing my hair out! She is one this Friday...

She will happily eat a sandwich at lunch time, or raison toast, frankfurts, but for dinner she will not eat any steam veg no matter what way I cut it, cube, chunk, finger...... I tear of very fine little bits of meat too and she just chucks them on the floor.

Now.... I would be happy if she just wasnt ready and was eating her spooned mashed veg & casseroles, but for some reason the past week she has stopped that too.... I get about 4 spoonfuls in and she just cries and chucks a tanty! I dont know why.... she never use to.... so I dont know if she all of a sudden doesnt want mushy stuff, or what, but i dont seem to be able to win any way... Sometimes I manage to get it all in to her inbetween tears and hands and tantis...

Has anyone elses little one done this, and if so what can I do to eleviate?

Also, what finger foods can I give her for dinner that might entice her as she is great at self feeding, just not meat and veg....

What about making some vegie pizza, cutting it up into fingers and letting her feed them to herself?

Will she eat vegies as finger food like broccoli tress and carrots? If not, have you tried dip? She might eat a sweet dip - you could try mixing soft cream cheese and crushed pineapple in natural juice (with majority of juice drained off just enough left in the make it a consistency that she can handle).

Thx, what would be suitable for a pizza base?

I have tried giving her all sorts of vegies in trees, cubes, sticks, diced, and she will put it in her mouth but it comes straight back out and on the floor....

Thanks, I might try that with some really thinly sliced potato/carrots/shredded ham etc on it.

Nothing worse, I feel for you.. a few I use to do to try to get the boys to eat are

Pin wheels. You could do a mince and veggie combo with a sprinkle of cheese and she can feed herself.

Mini meat balls with a heap of grated veggies.

Mashed veggies & tuna rolled into patties and grilled.

Pasta and veggies with a cheese sauce.

All I can think of now, but good luck

grated carrot, grated zucchini and ham works well together with cheese on top. For the sauce regular tomato sauce is fine and is really good for you (check the sugar levels though).

Maybe try giving the substantial meal for lunch cos by the end of the day she may be tired and grizzly. For dinner give her something that you know she'll eat.

I would give ds 'dinner' food at lunch and 'lunch' or 'breakfast' food at dinner. So,

    brekkie - weetbix/toast fingers/fruit

    lunch - veg/pasta/sausage rolls/savory mince/etc

    dinner - yogurt/sandwich/fruit

It mixes you up for a bit, but I figured that becuase he didn't have any expetations of what to eat when, so they really don't care. I've found that even though he's two, if we've had a full on day, he just doesn't want to be bothered to chew at dinner, so yogurt is fantastic.
