    Default Pregnant and vegetarian.

Hi I turned vego at the start of the year and found out shortly afterwards that I was pregnant with my third bubs.

I'm really glad I'm having this baby in a vegetarian body so to speak but I'm wondering if I should be trying to eat more of anything in particular.

Ironically the last thing I feel like eating at the moment is vegetables (just the thought of eating asparagus or carrots or broccolli makes me feel ill). Unless i guess you classify chocolate muffins as a vegetable...

    Any advice would be great.

I was so sick everyday that I had to just eat what I could keep down!
It was mainly carbs, breads, potato, rice at first. I did have meat late in my pregnancy as i started to crave it. My friend ( a veggie for 15 years through 2 pregnancy) said she started to do the same thing much to her own disgust. It was just what the body needed. Go with what your body needs. If you are worried ask your dr about suppliments. I found that having a glass of milo everyday was good. It has a good amount of iron and you need that calcium. It was a nice treat.

ps Watch the episodes in ''Friends'' when Phoebe is pregnant. She starts to crave meat- it is quite funny.

    Hey

I have been vego for 20 years () so all four of my babies have grown inside a vegetarian body

Hmmmm, eat heaps of lentils, tofu, beans, vegetarian lasagne, um avocado and perhaps get some flaxseed oil for your omega 3s and EFAs Try lots of wholemeal/soy pasta dishes with mixed veges (eve cut up finely like mince if you cant stomach big pieces. Wholemeal lentil pizzas are good too

    Veggie since 1991

I'm lazy though and don't always eat to get enough iron so I take iron supplements. When preg I took Elevit which has a good amount of iron. (Just make sure you get lots of fibre to counteract the iron.)

    For going veggie.

I've had 2 vego pregnancies. With the 2nd i had trouble stomaching anything at all. I just ate what i could, took FGF iron and folate tablets and some clatrate calcium tablets too. DS was born healthy and and still is.

You just need to eat as wide a variety of foods as possible. While you aren't able to stomach much the baby will draw what it needs from your body's own supply. Maybe look into taking some supplements as well. Most doctors recommend iron and folate to all pregnant women anyway.

And just remember that you don't need meat to grow a healthy baby! I know alot of people can't seem to get their heads around that concept.
