Default Ugh - another reason not to have an epidural

    Mother Paralysed
    February 21, 2008

A mother left paralysed when she was given an injection contaminated with cleaning fluid is set to receive up to £5 million compensation.

Angelique Sutcliffe was given the epidural injection shortly before giving birth to her baby daughter, Abigail.

But she was left writhing in agony on her bed and suffered catastrophic neurological damage which has left her wheelchair-bound for life.

Yesterday she took her fight for compensation to the Appeal Court in London where she won the right to millions of pounds in compensation.

Unfortunately, I had no choice - had to have an emergency c-sect, so they had to give me a spinal block...I was nearly sick with nerves while they were giving it to me. It still freaks me out that I had a huge-ar$e needle stuck into my spine

I don't know about another reason this was the reason I never ever want one done. If I had to have a c-section I wanna be knocked out completely! Not that it's a plan, getting pregnant again isn't in my current 5 year plan at least lol.

the tiny risk of being paralised pretty much the only reason not to have one. And the fact that you cant move around. But that case, was just a very unfortunate mistake.
Personally I am glad I had one because it was SUCH a releif. Gave me 12 hours of relatively easy labour and I was still able to feel contractions and push at the end.

But the not moving part really sucked! However epi or not I would have been bed ridden anyway because of monitoring, there was meconium in my waters. So bugger that, if I was going to be bed ridden, I wasnt going to be rolling around in pain aswell!

    Oh the poor woman.

A friend of mine has bene left with constant, crippling migraines ever since her birth 3.5 years ago. I feel so sorry for her, she can't function too well and has tried so much to help herself

I think you might find heaps of women have epi's. People just tend to focus on the negative and not the positives.

Did you hear in the news how I had one and delivered a beautiful baby boy.

    NO, just the negatives.
