    Smile hooded bath towels?

having never had a child myself , my first question is, are these any good, or do they just look cute?

and second question, does anyone know where i can find plain ones without any embroidery so i can do my own?

or know where i can find a pattern to make my own?

We were given a couple as gifts for Luca and I find them great for the beach or the pool. Keeps the wind out of his ears and of course looks realy cute on one the hood part is a duck's beak etc so he looks like my little ducky.

Yes, I like them too. I find it makes it easier to dry the dude's hair (or lack thereof ).

I love the hooded towels and i couldn't live without them, they are so cute but the best thing about them it covers the babies hair and you dont have to try and wiggle a normal towel out from under them. sorry all mine have cute things on them so i cant help on the plain ones.

Spotlight might be worth checking and if you don't have one nearby I am pretty sure they do online orders maybe check their website if you are interested.

The hooded towels are such a great idea, they are the best thing to use after swimming lessons for older children too. Good luck finding some plain ones

I never bothered with hooded towels when DD was an infant. She had lots of hair but when bathing her I would do her hair last right before getting her out of the bath to prevent her getting too cold, and then lay her down to dry off with a terry flat nappy under her head. I found her hair was so fine that it could be towel dried quickly anyways. The nappy flats were better for hair drying than thicker towels. Maybe if she'd been a winter baby the hooded towels would have been worthwhile but it's certainly possible to manage without.

I've always made most of our own things for baby (including hooded towells, cloth diapers, rompers, gowns, etc). There are some fantastic resources online to make your own hooded towells. Here are just a few to get you started:

If you can knit, check out http://www.knitlist.com/98gift/babyshoodedtowel.htm .

For those who sew, try the free patterns at http://sewing.about.com/od/babyshowe...ababytowel.htm OR
    http://home.comcast.net/~needlebeetl...oodedtowel.htm OR
    http://tntn.essortment.com/babyhoodedtowe_riso.htm .

Kwiksew also has a pattern (to buy) at http://www.kwiksew.com/Patterns/P3058_3080/3080.cfm .

Hooded towells are actually pretty easy if you're handy with the sewing machine. Good luck, and feel free to ask questions if you get stuck!
