Default May cause sleeplessness - argh!

This is really just a whinge but also to let you know that the warning is true . YOu know those medicines and cough suppressants that usually make children drowsy and ensures they have a good nights sleep to recover from their cough...and how there is a warning that in some cases they may actually cause sleeplessness - ITS TRUE!

DS was awake last night from 12pm till 3:40am . Poor kid though he was desperate to sleep but just couldnt. We had him in our bed for ages, then I sat on the lounge in the dark with him watching infomercials and a rather interesting special on Egypt and he kept laying down trying to sleep then sitting up crying because he was so tired but just couldnt sleep. Finally we went for a drive as a last resort and I drove around for about 20 minutes after he fell asleep to make sure he was in a deep sleep, got home, put him in his cot, crept blissfully into bed only to hear him stir again 5 mins later!! At this point I got a little teary and DH was annoyed, wondering why I was crying when I'm not a baby - hello - I need sleep!!!! And I felt so bad for poor DS who just wanted to sleep and I had run out of ideas to help him (not to mention I'm pregnant and hormonal!). Fortunately by the time I got to his door and was about to open it he had fallen asleep out of sheer exhaustion.

Thankfully he then slept till 9am, but still this is me today Now I just need to find out if once they have reacted this way to this type of medicine once, does it mean it will always have this effect? I know I'll be VERY hesitant to give him anything similar again.
    Me, DH, DS1 (April '06), DS2 (Feb '08), DS3 born sleeping (20/5/10 at 23wks) and DS4 (Oct '11, 33wks and 1205gms)

    - forever grateful for my beautiful family
    - forever missing our little boy

You poor thing. I hope he gets better soon.

In my sisters case the answer was yes. Everytime my mum gave her a cough medicine etc (and back then they did) she would not sleep and even go really hyper.

Me on the other hand had the opposite reaction. Anything like that and I would fall asleep and sleep like a baby.

Our doctor has told me to give DD2 phenergan when we go away soon. (for car sickness) Unfortunately she wont wear the travel bands I bought which would have been a much better option. She is so much like my sister it's not funny. So the car trip is going to be so much fun!
