Has anyone undertaken this program at all? Apparently it is the best treatment for kids with sensory issues but it is hard slog. It involves brushing the body with a soft brush EVERY 90 minutes for 6 weeks followed by joint compression.

Hi stellaj
I am an Occupational Therapist who is trained in undertaking the Wilbarger technique
I'm happy for you to pm me regarding details of this technique, research behind it and details of the technique.
It's late here, otherwise I'd post more about it for other members, I'll see how I feel in the morning whether I can elaborate more.

Thanks Pegasus.
Obviously you reccomend i then if you are practicing it yourself. I was just hoping to hear others experiences and changes they have seen in children after doing this program. Also how schools manage to follow the program. Connors school is supportive of everything but I'm wondering how I can make sure it is done correctly and on time and all that as it is a big ask for them.

Hi again stellaj
I don't actively practice wilbargers at the moment (taken some time out from paediatric practice to look after my own kids LOL)
It is a huge time commitment and needs to have everyone on board. The time commitment is usually only in the initial period.
From speaking to other therapists who have also been trained, it seems that usually there are principles that are employed in a child's therapy program, but I can't honestly say I know any therapist that follows the program in it's true sense. Most therapists (including myself, when practicing paediatric therapy) tend to go more for "sensory diets" rather than the brushing routines. It seems to be hard on the child and the parent (who has the child most of the time).
However, in saying that, there have been some really positive stories I've heard from some people who have undertaken to do it properly and seen some great behaviour changes in their child. It seems to be like most regimes, that it suits some children, but the majority benefit from a combination of regimes.
