    Default PUPPS/PREGNANCY RASH...Your Thoughts?

    Hi everyone

I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant and need some advice please. Sorry it's a long one...

Well, 1.5 weeks ago I noticed a rash on my tummy which immediately came up after waxing. I just thought this was the normal waxing dots/rash and it would subside overnight. I then had a shower (hot/stupid me) and then applied bio-oil/coco butter which was really stupid again as I now know you shouldn't use this when the skin is broken/rashy. Anyway, a couple of days later this rash was SO itchy and inflammed I thought I had a severe reaction to the oil/butter and stopped using it. I showed my OB at my appointment and she told me it's PUPPS (dreaded pregnancy rash) or an allergy from the waxing.....and to "wait and see if it spreads" She prescribed my Diprosone Cream 0.05% and after using it 3x a day my tummy rash has gone down quite ALOT and the itch there is gone. BUT it's started to spread up my boobs now! Not as bad but red rashy still (not too itchy). So, yes, it seems to be PUPPS.

    My questions are:

    1. Who has had this and what's your advice!
    2. I'm only 24 weeks, hoping it doesn't stay until 40 weeks but that's usually the case. Anyone out there just have a mild case and it went after a few weeks?
    3. I feel awful and worried about using a prescription cream but was told it was safe during pregnancy. I still feel bad....anyone use one for a long time???? I've only used it for about a week and don't want to continue if I can help it. Just thinking about applying on the REALLY itchy parts...

Overall, I'm so annoyed that I have this. I was doing so well! I'm told it happens to people that have stretchmarks, put on a lot of weight, and are in their last trimester....I don't fall into any of those categories! I've only gained 5 kgs! no stretchies yet and only 24 weeks!!!!!

ps. OB also had bloods taken to confirm it's not the liver condition Cholestitis.

    Thanks everyone.

It's horrible isn't it? I had it around 34 weeks, I think. I managed to avoid using anything except calamine lotion. I would smear my belly in calamine lotion twice a day, and the relief was fantastic. Chat to your pharmacist, because one calamine lotion contains a local anaesthetic and is not a good idea to use on your belly, but normal calamine is fine.

    Good luck!!

Oh, I forgot to say - it went away after a week or so.

    Hi Bron

Thanks for your post! It is AWFUL and i wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

I've decided to cut back to using the cream on the very itchy sections which is usually only in the mornings when I wake up after rubbing and tossing in bed. I'm pretty much fine throughout the day so I'm not going to use it. I have bought the Calamine lotion so I'll just use that.

Did you get it anywhere else or just on your belly? Hearing yours went away after about a week is VERY ENCOURAGING!!!

    Thanks again

Mine was only on my belly.

Another thing I did - cool showers, kept my belly uncovered when at home (that was attractive) and wore loose cotton tops when out.

Hi, sorry to hear how bad your SIL is! She sounds alot worse then me. You should visit this site and read up on the types of rashes. I have two very good OB working on me so I feel I could have it slightly under control....but would love to hear from more woman out there that have experienced anything like this?

    Hi Gina,

I had PUPPS with DS but I think I was about 34 weeks from memory. I had it on my tummy and chest mainly, but also a bit on my arms. I remember it itched constantly and it is a lot worse at when you get hot - just great for summer.

My OB recommended I bathe in pinetarsal (revolting flouro yellow stuff you put into the bath) and use Alpha-Keri Lotion (it's just a really gentle moisturiser from the chemist). I had some prescription cream in case it got really bad but the pinetarsal and the lotion really, really relieved it. It actually went away after about 2 weeks but the Ob was very surprised. He thought I would have it til I gave birth.

If you are concerned about the prescription cream then I would give the things I mentioned a go - or the calamine. It's such an annoying rash!
