Default oral thrush in bf baby?

Im not sure if DS has oral thrush or not. DD had it when she was a newborn but her tongue was entirely white. His just is a little white and is a lot less white after a feed, hardly white at all so not sure if it is or not. Am endeavouring to get him to the doctor just to make sure. My query is about him passing it to me, what symptoms would I present with?

Wouldn't you just have thrush in your nipples then?

I'm not sure but I think sometimes there aren't alot of symptoms for nipple thrush...or they'll be really sore.

Sorry, not much help there was I.

If you are unsure, then I'd get it checked by the GP or your pharmacist. If it is thrush, then buy some nilstat - it's an oral thrush med (very safe for bubs) - from memory you can put it on your nips too, to treat them...

I know i had alot of symptoms when i had nipple thrush! I was very sore and read and the skin was kinda flaky....youch!! It was very difficult to feed.
My ds had oral thrush and the bad nappy rash from it. I'm sure if he did have oral thrush that you would notice some symptoms in yourself. Someone correct me if i'm wrong!

im not presenting with anything, no rash or anything like that but my left (o)(o) is so very sore. After each feed (even if he has totally drained it) I get this tingling burning sensation in my boob. Only on the left side. I looked up mastitis but i'm not 100% sure and that info i got basically said just keep getting him to feed on the side with mastitis and massage any lumps out, apply heat etc

Does that sound like it could be thrush or mastitis?

I think you'd know if you had mastitis. You'd be very sore, but not only after a feed. You may also feel warm spots in your breast with mastitis. I also used to get high temperatures. Oh the joys of breast feeding. Is the nipple sore to touch? Does it look different than usual?

everything all looks the same. DS is only 2 and a bit weeks old so everything is still quite sore. I didnt know whether the pain and heat i was feeling could just be my (o)(o)'s getting used to bfing or whether it is mastitis. I just want to nip it in the bud so to speak

Symptoms of mastitis are Flu-like symptoms, sore red breasts and fever. If you do have mastitis then those symptoms will progress quickly. If you have been feeling this for a few days then i think that it is highly unlikely that it is mastitis.

Alot of newborn babies do get oral thrush and it does sometimes just go away on its own. Are the sides of his cheeks white too?

If your boobs are feeling worse by tomorrow or if you are worried about bub then i would give the ABA a call or go and see your doc, just to put your mind at rest.

I know what you mean about niping it in the bud. I get vaginal thrush alot and it is sooo terrible!...Sorry for TMI....As soon as i start to feel it coming on i head straight for the chemist!

It is just your body adjusting to the feeding process.

it is just his tongue nothing on his cheeks at all , could it just be some kind of milk build up or something?

It has been going on and off for a few days so i didnt really think it was mastitis but i just stress about everything

thank you so much for your help!

Tingling around the nipples & itchiness often mean oral thrush. Head off to your doctor to get it checked out hun.
