I agree, fantastic idea and would be great if it could happen but I can't see a way that it will.

It's probably worth looking at how the Greens plan on funding the scheme. A policy is more than just a statement of an ideal - they include funding plans as well. This country is incredibly wealthy, & there's money to be spent on water policies regardless of whose policies they are. The Greens simply think theirs is the best.

I found this water policy outline on the Greens website - http://greens.org.au/content-data/47...r%20Policy.pdf
(I'm afraid I can't find anything on this specific policy, as my 'puter has aquired a virus meaning I can't do searches! )

I do look at the "plan" of any party policy which I think isn't as simple as the election promise.

I still see an issue for renters with this plan. It does take the pressure off landlords having to purchase the tanks etc for their rental properties as well as their own house by including the costs in the water bill. But for the renter it kind of sucks. They now pay for it and if you move around a lot, you may end up having to pay for tanks in every house you ever live in.

I have deleted a few off topic posts in this thread. It does pay to give ppl the benefit of the doubt, as misinterpretation is very easy in this environment.

Focus: children, parenting, small fluffy animals...
    Now post!!!

I didn't see it in the article but I hope he is not advocating people in the city drink their tank water. I know what we capture in our first flush diverter is extremely filthy and even is slimey. Our roof is probably no worse than anyone else's but I know that it gets covered with bat, possum and bird faeces.

It is fine for the garden, pool, toilet and laundry but I would never drink our tank water as you can't guarantee its quality.

Growing up I lived in the country and that's all we were able to drink was rain water caught in our water tank. It was the best tasting water!
No one would drink town water...not even for a dare.
The article link can be found in the OP on page 1.
