    Default Eczema and teething

Mods: please move if in wrong area.

Emily is cutting her top four teeth at once and at the same time she has had a flare up of eczema. She has been pretty good over the last few months (when her last teeth were cut). The eczema is on her face and a little on her chest.

Is eczema and teething related? She has eaten nothing different. I have cut fabric softner out of her diet and I am applying a cream called "Nourish: Eczema and Psoriasis cream" made by Natralia. What other products should I be using? I heard a lot about QV bath oil, does it work?

    Thanks

Some bubs can react to the QV flare up bath oil, so do a test spot first before using it. I find too that when Lily is teething her skin gets worse.

We use a combination of Dermaid 1% (over the counter cortisone), Dermaveen bath oil and QV intensive and only bath her every other day or so (depending on how dirty she is!).

It is hard to manage during teething, but I find keeping her cool is important too. If it is really hot where you are, even damping down clothes with a little spray bottle of water can help too.

I have been wondering about a connection between eczema and teething also.
We are brand new to the world of eczema, as DS#2 has only developed it over the last couple of months. He is 23 months old and this spring is the first sign of anything like it.
I had been successfully managing it with a cream of my own making but over the weekend, it has flared (understatement!) out of control. I took him to the chemist and bought some cortisone cream (Dermaid) which seems to be calming it a bit but I am really unsure on a few things.

    1) Why has it only just now developed?

    2) What is different in our lives that may have brought it on?

    3) Is it connected to his molars coming through?

I have had a good look through the recommended sites and confirmed a few things I knew. DH had childhood eczema as did my brother, it could be pollen/grass related.

Also, what is the likelihood of this coming on from wearing synthetic shoes (he started wearing crocs around the same time as it started)?

Sorry, my post is pretty erratic but it all seems so overwhelming.

My DS just cut his first tooth last night, and I don't think it's related but his eczema has also flared up and is infected.

Instead of QV try Cetaphil, it's much gentler, I really noticed the difference with DS.

It is pretty overwhelming when it first turns up, with a bit of trial and error you begin to find out what works and what doesn't.

Every time my dd teeths her eczema plays up. It used to be quite bad but now i have it 'under control'. First i changed her to soy milk and i bath her in QV wash (not flare up) and i use dermeze as a barrier/moisturiser every day and at every nappy change.

I am at my wits end at the moment. I have been prescribed sigmacort and it has cleared up well on her face.

Her chest is getting worse. I started by bathing her in Natural Instincts and nothing much happened. This happened for a week. It was going okay, but not going away. Yesterday I bathed her in QV flare up oil and it made her ten times worse! She is really red and her skin is weeping. The sigmacort helps for a while but I really don't want to keep putting this on her skin.

Tonight I used Dermaveen oatmeal wash and oil and used Dermaveen Eczema cream. Hopefully this might help. I am just really scared at the moment that she will never get better.

I have cut all fabric softner, use Omo Senitive, have just changed to Amolin. I have ruled out dairy, wheat and egg as she reacts no different to any of these foods. She is dressed in only cotton.

I have hayfever and had asthma as a child, so did DH.

I am at my wits end. She is constantly scratching and I am doing my best to keep her nails short.

Sorry just need to express my frustation.

I should also add that it is hot and humid where we are, almost all year round. Recently it has just gotten hotter. Does the weather contribute?

Your poor DD! We are new to this whole eczema thing (having only ever dealt with an allergic reaction type of eczema once, many years ago) and I have to admit to being a bit overwhelmed by it.
What I have come to understand is that with the onset of warmer weather, we also get seasonal changes such as pollens, cut grass etc... and this seems to have been the initial trigger for our DS. Often in the mornings, there is little sign of it but by the evening, it is glaringly obvious!

Actually, Funkychicken, that what happens to DD! It gets worse as the day goes on.

What treatments are you using at the moment?

I have had to use Dermaid over the last few days as it flared up terribly and developed weeping sores overnight.
But as a management process I mix up 2 different blends of vegetable and essential oils in a plain moisturiser base-depending on whether it is dry or inflamed.
Thsi has been working but we just hit a rough patch, I think.

There is a fantastic book called Calm Kid's by Jennifer Jefferies (Aus author) and it has a
whole range of treatments for various ailments. I highly recommend it as a reference book.
