    Default cooking foods before pureering?

hi, I'm just starting the whole solids thing and want to give my baby pears.

After peeling I think I have to cook them before purerring them?? Is it ok to cook in the microwave, then puree then let it cool before serving?

    is that how its done?

    tIA!

Yup that's how it's done. Peel and core, cover with a little cooled boiled water and pop in the microwave with some glad wrap over for 5 mins or so. Let cool then puree with a stick blender for nice smooth consistency.

    It does get confusing hey?

But yes you need to cook them first.
I peel my pears and put them in a saucepan with a few tablespoons of water and simmer until they're soft.
Drain the water then puree. Let cool before serving. Pears tend to hold heat for quite a while too.

It's easier to puree anything while it's hot.

You can also cook up a whole batch, puree, put into small 1 serve size containers and freeze. Then when needed just defrost in the microwave and serve.

Why do you have to cook Pear first?

It's a pretty soft fruit, I go right ahead and just puree it up (after peeling and coring of course)
Other fruits need cooking, hard ones like apple, otherwise it's prety hard to puree it up.

good question sqiglet. I gave dd one serving uncooked by mistake.

I recently bought a heap of pears cheap because they were ripe and had a little brusing. is it ok to use them? I figure if I cut out the brusing they'd be ok
