My husband actually loses sleep over it. He is so disturbed by the effects of global warming and so concerned about Jedd's future that he literally cant sleep some nights because of anxiety...

Me, me, me! I have lived a selfish and not so environmentally life for far too long and am desperately trying to make up for it now.

The thing that is really weighing on my mind at the moment is my car. It is a family sedan and I would really like to downsize. Unfortunately the budget isn't really leaving us much room for that, so it will have to wait a bit longer.

The thing I am working on right now is to not be such a consumer. I try and think before I buy things about my budget and the environmental impact of what I buy and whether I really need it.

Thats fantastic that your thinking twice. We had to wait to downsize our car too - the thing that made us do it was when rego rolled around and it was going to cost more to 'fix' it up for rego than it was valued at... We now have an economical Mazda3 (couldn't afford a diesel) and it's not HALF as much of a gas-guzzler in comparison to our old Bommodore... (Yes, it was a bomb...)

It's hard to make the lifestyle change - cause that is really what is involved. If it weren't for my husbands encouragement it would be a lot harder for me to do this on my own.

I've always tried to do my bit to be kind to the environment, but this year I've really become aware of how badly we are stuffing up our beautiful planet for our kids - they are going to have to clean up our mess or learn to live in a hot, dry, hungry, war-ridden planet - which is not the sort of life I want for them, but that seems to be their destiny if we don't do a quick u-turn in our diposable consumer society.

I'm so sorry we haven't done more in the wealthy first world to give them a planet with a clean and healthy environment. I want to do what I can to give future generations a better life.

    Hands waving madly over here!

I don't do anywhere near as much as I'd like though - still feel we use too much water/ electricity/ petrol etc.
The main thing I'm happy with is that I source second-hand goods for virtually everything I buy. DH & I are also planning a future of 'downsizing' (even though we never really 'upsized'). We're working out how we can eventually move out of the city, and live as self-sufficiently as possible.
