    Default A bit of everything

I'm not sure where to post this as it contains a bit of everything..........

On Monday evening DS had his 12 month immunisations. Monday night he was cranky, obviously. No signs of fever though, just a little sore.

By Tuesday morning he had almost lost his voice, he was very croaky and dry. Tuesday day and night he was still cranky.

Wednesday and Thursday he still had a nasty voice. No sign of a cold, just the raspy voice and very sooky.

Friday he was fine all day and night.

Saturday lunch I gave him some fish fingers (for the first time).
By Saturday night he had a small rash on his tummy.

By this afternoon (Sunday) he has the rash still but worse, on his tummy, the back of his neck, under his arms and small spots on his legs, his groin and a little on his legs.

So.......would this rash be from the immunisations or the fish or a bit of both ?

If it's still bad tomorrow I'm taking him to the Dr but I thought I'd ask to see what you think too ?

hmmm tough call.. id probably say it was the fish, since he had the usual after-effects from the needles then got over them and was fine saturday, until the fish. Could he have a fish allergy or somthing added into the fish? (there is alot more than just fish in those sticks)

He's had tuna (tin) before with no problems.

But this is the first time he's had white fish. They were the Bird's Eye Fish Fingers.
I took the crumbs off first before giving it to him so he had just the fish on it's own.

    hi,

What were the vaccinations? did they give you the info sheets about what possible reactions they can get?

Heading to the Dr's is a good idea if you are worried.

I remember when DD had her measles vaccinations she ended being covered in lots of the rash/spots nearly a week after she had the vaccination. Sometimes the reactions pop up 10-14 days after they have had the jab, it depends on what vaccination they have had.

If they have a viral cold, sometimes when they are getting better, rashes can just pop up before your eyes literally and then they go as quick as they come. It is like a post viral rash.

Again, if you are worried, a visit to the GP will put your mind at ease.

It was the measels, mumps, rubella, meningacocal vacc and something else.
It's been 1 week since he had the vaccinations.

It looks awful but it doesn't seem to be bothering him at all. he's still active and happy and eating and drinking well.

So we went to the Dr last night and the low-down is this.

    DS has Erythema.
Which is an allergic reaction caused by medications or foods.
In his case it is the egg protein that is in the MMR immunisation.

So he's not allowed anything containing egg or nuts. Mind you he's had scrambled egg before and he didn't get a reaction to it, but the Dr says that the MMR has egg white in a more "uncooked" way compared to when you scramble them!
He also has excema on his legs so he has sensitive skin too.

The poor little vegemite. Below is a link to a pic of some of his rash. It's pretty much all over his body.

hope your gp recorded this as a reaction to immunisation then for the public health stats.

for your wee sprite, virgin olive oil might help heal the excema along with oat baths. olive oil is less allargenic than a lot of commercial even natural baby oils which can contain nut oils.

I hope bub is okay now.

After reading this, I think I am going to wait to give bub her MMR. I didn't have one when I was younger and I caught rubella in pre-school. I didn't have it at 15 either, and fell pregnant.. Actually, come to think of it, I never had it! LOL.
When I cry, I am not being naughty or misbehaving; I am not being unreasonable. Please listen to me when I am feeling this way. I know it's hard to listen to me cry. Listen to me so that I don't repress these feelings and turn bitter when I get older. Please don't distract me. I need to deal with these feelings. Offer me hugs and support. Stay with me when I cry. Listen.. Keep listening..

After a bit of TLC, special bath wash and lotion and some prescribed medicine, the rash has just about gone.

The dr did record this reaction.

He said also that for the 18 month chicken pox vacc he will have to wait until he's older as this vacc also contains egg protein, but he still has to have this vacc before he's 4 years old.

Thank god it wasn't any more serious but now we have to watch what we feed him, no egg, no nuts etc.

The more serious form of Erythema is Steven Johnson's disease.

It's a shame that they don't tell you any of this before bubs has any vaccs.

But DS is still a happy chappy and it didn't seem to bother him that much, but still it's bad enough just the thought of it happening again.
