Turning a breech baby ??

Just wondering if anyone has had experience with turning a breech baby?

I'm 37 weeks and baby has been breech for a week or two. I've only spoken to one person, and his wife had no dramas when they turned the baby, but I have gotten a couple of negative comments from others.
It is my first baby...

37 weeks is pretty early to be worrying, your baby has a fair few weeks to spin around, however, if you wanted to read up on it, try checking out www.spinningbabies.com
A lot of babies don't turn head down until quite late in the piece, some even turn during labour. Remembering that normal gestation is anywhere up to 42 weeks, you do have quite a bit of time up your sleeve.

There is HEAPS of info out there, and gazillions of things you can try if you are so inclined.

Breech is just another variation of normal, and people do birth breech babies just fine, so don't think your choices are limited.

I know a couple of people who have had very good results with acupuncture/moxibustion. You could also talk to an osteo - mine turns breech bubs with great success.

There is more room than you think in there - my last preg was twins and one was still turning at over 35 weeks.

My last daughter was breech up until the day that I had her which was also the day that the ob manually turned her. They gave me quite a large dose of ventolin to relax the muscles and then with one hand under her bottom and one hand behind her head the gentle moved her around. It was quite a strange feeling i did vomit from the sudden change in position and probably nerves as well but it wasn't really uncomfortable. I went into labour 8 hours later. So if they do do an ecv make sure you have your bags packed. But as the others have said try accupuncture or moxabustion . Good luck I hope all goes well.

I had success turning my baby at 35-36 weeks using acupuncture/moxabustion

I saw an acupuncturist who had previously been a midwife.

I went swimming and did handstands in the pool! hahah.. i think it helped coz net scan, DD had turned!

Kiah was born by c/s due to being breech, though keep in mind I had to be delivered early due to having gestation diabetes so didn't have as much time for her to turn. I was given a scan which showed that there was no where near enough fluid left in the sac for her to turn by herself, she had run out of room basically.

I looked into having her manually turned and was told it might be doable but there was a chance of the placenta coming away in which case I would have to have an emergency c/s which I wanted to avoid.

Not trying to scare you, just think having different aspects is important so make sure you have all the info before you proceed. Is there a chance of getting another ultrasound so they can see whether there is enough fluid and room etc?

I wish you luck! Babies are well known for scaring their mums and then turning at the last minute!

i had dd3 turned at 37 weeks, i asked not to have the drug offered... it was quick and simple, i felt a little odd for a few minutes after, but fine once it passed... she was induced a few days after her due date... best of luck

my story is similar to Kiahsmum - ended up having bubs at 38 weeks via CS as I was advised not to do an ECV and my bubby definately did not have room to turn.

There are risks with ECV's so do your research first .... and make sure that whoever is doing it has some experience in this.

Pregnancy yoga can also be good to turn bubbies - but at 37 weeks I would only try this if you have done yoga before.

The stats are - around 20% of babies who are breech at 36 weeks will still turn BUT IMO the real chances of bubs turning are higher than that as many turn very late and many mums have an earlier CS as obs advice is often that they dont want you to go into labour

Above all - research research research. Look carefully at all the stuff about having a breech baby in case the ECV doesnt work.... there are lots of opinions out there and you need to decide for yourself what to do.....
