Default Oh no OMG no no!!

Theoretically anything that wriggles, sticks out it's tongue and doesnt have legs is a snake right?

Theoretically anything that does that and is small is considering a baby and would probably have a mother somewhere right????

    OMG I can't handle this!!!!

Are there snakes around here? (Central coast)? On the coast??

I don't even know anything about them! My cat obviously caught it and decided to leave it at my front door. Which fine, I thought it was a lizard and maybe my cat was talented and chewed off it's legs or something? But it doesnt seem to have had legs in the first place.
I wanted to go to the shop but Im too scared to go to my car now cause what if my cat got it from the front yard? shes been hanging around there a lot and I thought maybe there was another blue tongue lizard... but now Im freaking out I may have snakes??

    wtf do I do!?

There are legless lizards, look very much like snakes but make a weird noise..

I have no idea about snakes where you are though..

I think snakes can pretty much live anywhere... so I wouldn't think where you are is snake free (perhaps it may just be less common than in, say, bushland).

And yep, there are legless lizards...

Here's a way to spot if it's a legless lizard or a snake...it has to have at least 2 of these features...

    1 - Broad, fleshy tongue
    2 - Ear-opening behind eye
3 - Two or more rows of belly scales
4 - Tail as long as to much longer than body
5 - If uniform body pattern present, then longitudinal (stripes versus crossbands in Oz snakes.

Some of them look EXACTLY like you think a snake would... check out here: http://members.iinet.net.au/~bush/legless.html

I would call someone out to take a look...

Get the number of a local snake catcher and put it as the first number in your mobile phone and on the wall next to your home phone. (That's what I do.) If you want to leave the house take a broom with you and bang around the front door a lot or the stairs etc. Take it with you in the car so you have it when you get home. (Yep, I did that for a while too!) Stomp your feet too. Theoretically any snakes around should run away (as a snake does ) when there's lots of noise and commotion. (That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!!!)

hehe well my dad talked me into going down to the vet and checking it out. He told me to stomp my feet too! Cause it DOES scare snakes!
Long story short, not even they could tell if it was a lizard or a snake!
If it's a snake it's a swamp snake.. I feel kind of better about this because again theoretically I dont have a swamp here, hence let's call it a lizard

BUT... she did tell me that we do have a few snakes up here (red bellies, brown snakes... not that I know what they look like!). But she was very helpful and said if Im going to run, do it in a zigzag and snakes don't follow loud vibrations so again, stomping works.

..Thats if anyone wanted to know.
I do feel slightly better, not 100% certain. But I'll definately be calling the landlord to umm, sort out the garden!

BTW snake catchers normally wont come out unless the snake is contained in a room or shed.
They will still charge a fee even if they cant find it, thats why they normally wont come out if its in the yard etc.
