The backflip is stating the party's position on a particular topic and then changing it...or am I not understanding the word backflip?
It's the same as Peter Garrett's position in regards to the pulp mill which has been ever so conveniently brushed under the rug here.

The reason I dont see it as a backflip is that another person from the party said something which was insesitive and misleading and the leader of that party has come out and said in no uncertain terms, No he is wrong.

I see backflip to mean person A said "the sky is blue," and then the same person turned around and said "no no, the sky is pink."

That change of opinion was spectacular to say the least. Honestly, I still can't believe that Peter Garrett openly supports a pulp mill that is not environmentally friendly in any way. What happened to the great Greenie Garrett?

It's often very difficult trying to keep everything consistent, but didn't John Howard do a GST backflip when he said there was never going to be a GST and then he introduced it?

Howard also said that he will not interfere with the Indonesian government because he doesn't believe it's right for him to interfere with another sovereign government. Yet he seemed to have no problems interfering with the old Iraqi government.

Yeah it is not a backflip, when he was not the one who made the original statement, he is now simply stating Labors actual position.
