    Default Confused about solids.

    Hi there ladies,
My DD has just started on solids,I started with farex and have since progressed on to vegetables and fruit.
I was hoping that you might help to answer a few questions for me.
    1) She has started to cut down on milk is this ok or should I reduce the amount of food offered?
2)She has got a red rash around her mouth area,is this a normal reaction to food for the first time? It has happened after every thing I have tried!
3)At what stage do I offer food before milk?

A bit of background she is breastfed and is just over 6 months old.
    Thank you in advance.

    1) She has started to cut down on milk is this ok or should I reduce the amount of food offered? I think that's pretty normal. Ds cut down his milk intake when i started solids
2)She has got a red rash around her mouth area,is this a normal reaction to food for the first time? It has happened after every thing I have tried! Not sure about that one, is she teething? cause sometimes that causes a red rash around the mouth, hopefully someone else can answer that one
3)At what stage do I offer food before milk? cooper is still offered milk before i feed him and he is 7mths
A friend will stick up for you and calm you down when your mad....... but a best friend will skip alongside you with a shovel giggling "someones gonna get it!"

Milk should still provide primary nutrition until about 12 months. I would try cutting down on solids if she was reducing the amount she was breastfeeding a lot, but a small decline is normal Solids are mainly for experimentation as opposed to nutrition at this age.

I would be concerned if this were my bub. It might be nothing, but I wouldn't take that chance. What foods have you tried? I would definitely take note of what has caused the rash and I would go straight to the doctor and ask about it. I would stop all solids that cause the rash immediately. Again, it's probably nothing to worry about (may be teething like the PP said), but I don't think possible allergies are something to ignore

At what stage do I offer food before milk?
I kept offering milk before food until about a year.

My DS is 8 and a half months old and he has recently cut down on his bottle volume - but it could be two reasons - he has been sick or he enjoys his food more.

I rang my childhood nurse on Monday and she said at this stage DS should be starting to have solids before milk and that he would nearly be ready to drop a bottle (he is formula fed).... He is currently having 3 x Solids and 4 x bottles (150mls)..he still has one during the night...

With the rash - hmm I would get it checked out ?????? Ask your childhood nurse for sure.

    I hope that sorta helps.

Thank you for the replies. She might be teething but as a new mum how do you really know all this stuff!!
I have tried pear, pumpkin and carrot all which have been eating with gusto.I am due to see my pead this week so I will run the rash issue past him.It looks like a reaction to having food on her skin not a food allergy as such but we will find out.
I think it is a big shock from being a boobie addict to only have one side.LOL
    Thanks again.
