I haven't long been living here, but everytime I hear/read about the Canberra Hospital it's always negative. First it was the babies that had to be tested for blood borne infections because the instruments used on them wern't sterile, then I read recently that the cleaners were saying it was a 'dirty' Hospital as they don't have enough cleaners and no hygiene procedures, and now this latest story. Doesn't give me much faith in the Hospital if I ever need to go/take my child there

I got as far as where it says 'the man was hunched over in the chair and it was assumed he was asleep' - DISGUSTING!!

I wonder if 'assumptions 101' is being taught to all health care workers or if it's just those in public hospitals who are incompetant.

    I feel for his family.

Just as an aside, and absolutely doesn't take away the tragedy of the situation, but did you know that the man had drunk a bottle of Metholated Spirits which is originally why he was at the Hospital. I noticed the media kept keeping that bit of factual info out as often as they could. All the same, such a very sad story.

I think alot of it also has to do with the front area staff, and some of their attitudes.
I have been there with my kids on a few occasions, and some nurses / drs are fantastic and if the back area is busy will come out to the waiting room to check on the people waiting. Then there are the onces that are happy to sit on their chairs and not move.
It is sad that this man had to loose his life due to the assumption of someone else instead of being checked on.
