Default I have a question - re: getting pregnant while attempting to be a donor...

I'm interested in becoming a donor once I've finished having babies of my own... but I just had a question pop into my mind that I'd love to have answered!

From what I understand (and mind you, I haven't bothered looking into it THAT much yet), you receive injections to increase the number of eggs or something... right?

In such a case, what happens if you have sex and USE one of those eggs yourself (unintentionally of course)?

I imagine the donor might be very upset, but apart from that, what happens? Or, is it recommended you're not having sex while going through the process...??

    Yeah no, I understand that...

It's more like, what happens if you accidently fall pregnant? Like, you have sex with your partner, and fall pregnant, even if you use contraception?

I don't intend to do this, but I just had the fleeting thought of "What if that happened?"

    Hi there,

When you become a donor there are several stages to the process.

Firstly, you sniff synarel nasal spray to drop your levels to base level and basically put you in a state of menopause.

Secondly, you inject yourself to stimulate the growth of your follicles.

Thirdly, you inject yourself with a trigger that gives your follies a final spurt and simulates an environment just prior to ovulation. 36 hours after the trigger injection the eggs are collected.

Technically as you do not ovulate during the cycle you cannot fall pregnant.

However, when you go thru the cycle you will be warned to take extra precautions after egg collection as there may be some that they have missed during collection and you will be extremely fertile.

    Hope that helps

Hmm sorry i read it wrong i guess that you either be extra careful or you abstain from sex then maybe it would put a backburner on things to harvest your eggs i guess, i am sure someone else can help more but interesting thought though

Hi there, I have always been advised to abstain from intercourse when you start your FSH injections (to produce multiple follicles) until 2 weeks after your pickup (that is usually your pregnancy test) but you do need a week or so to heal after your egg pickup. Hope this helps.
