    Red face Bleeding Belly Button?

Hi all. Our new born, 2 weeks old, still has some blood comming from his belly button. It's not much and its always just dried bits. We are cleaning it each change. Is this normal? and can we use savlon cream or somthing like that?

I remember dd has this for about 1 week after her cord dropped off, i used to just bath it with cotton wool in warm water with a little salt as advised from the gp. If its only a little amount of blood i wouldnt really be concerned but doesnt hurt to get it looked at if its bothering you

As long as the belly button doesn't look inflamed or infected it's fine. I'd probably not clean it at every change (might irritate it further), just a gentle wipe with cotton wool/salt water and gentle pat dry once daily at bathtime should suffice .

The same thing happened with my DD at about 3 weeks. I told her to our GP who is also a preditrician and he said it was fine. If there was an infection it would be looking very redish blue.

Tyler had this as his cord was about to fall off and for a little bit after....

We rushed down the hospital and spoke to the middies....

Just keep it clean and dry with every nappy change.... The middies gave us alcohol swabs, but salt and warm water would do the same trick!!!...

If it gets infected or is infected it will be all swollen and red.... and then I would see a GP...

Tylers just seemed to stop... So hopefully it will heal up soon for you...

It is scary stuff!!! I freaked when we found it!!!! But bubs will be ok!!!

No need to clean at each change, the rubbing/excess cleaning might be whats making it bleed?
With DD I was told not to worry about it at all.
Just being in her bath was enough to keep it clean

Of course as already advised if it becomes red or inflamed see your gp.

Yeah, DS's was like that too! But it's all cleared up now... If there is an infection, it would be quite red....
