Congenital dislocation of the hips

Both my daughters were born with this condition, my eldest son also, but his was ok by the time I tool him home from hospital. Eldest daughter had a splint for 3 months, second daughter had same but was splinted for 6 months. Have been told this is likely to happen to baby no.6 if it is a girl (I'm thinking it is) Is there anyone else who has had children with this condition

I was born with CDH of the right hip, as a baby I was in the frog splint and had numerous operations before I was school age. I know of quite a few people that also have the condition (mainly women) and most had it corrected early on and have led normal lives.

I am happy for you to PM me if you have any questions as I am happy to share my experience. I also worked at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London for several years so I met and worked with ortho specialists and lots of families who had children with this condition.

My six month old DD does not have this condition but was checked for it at birth and had an ultrasound of her hips at 1 mth, due to my history. She's having a paed check up next week and I think he will keep monitoring her hips.

I think maybe I might have had it too but was undiagnosed as I don't think they checked for it back then. Had to have special shoes built up for me when I started walking as I walked on the inside of my ankles. Was interested in talking to other mums who had daughter's diagnosed with it also. Yep, I had that whe I was born. I wore a splint for 6 months. Plus I've passed that onto my little bubs. She had all the risk factors for it....girl, breach, & I had it when I was a baby. Katelyn had to wear a brace for 5 weeks full-time (with an hour's break a day allowed) and then for another 5 weeks just at night....she's currently in the last week of wearign it at night. She goes back to the doc this Thursday & hopefully she'll be out of it for good then.

Alana was born also with this .... Ciaran had "clicky" hips, but only Alana had to be splinted due to the shape of a female pelvis and hip joint.

She was in a Pavolic harness for 3 and a half months 24/7. We had to give her bird baths where I had to sponge her down one side at a time while my partner or a physio held her hips in place.

The orthopead said this was necessary to help her joint to form fully and allays more serious problems and operations later in life (hopefully). She was at a quite severe angle but now (at 2) has no hip displacia and actually has a better formed hip joint (according to the sonographer) than the average 2 yr old.

Both my girls had a Dennis Brown splint & had to sponge bath them till it was removed. Haven't seen the new splint they are using. It was 17 & 11 years ago my girls had theirs. Have been told no 6 will more than likely have CDH also if it's a girl . Will have to wait & see!

I was born with this in one hip - I wore the pavlik harness for 5 months.
My dd was also born with it - in both hips. She wore the von rosen splint for 4 months. We have been having 3 monthly checkups. She is now 13 months and walking and we have our next check up in July - so fingers crossed!

I was born with CDH affecting both hips. I luckily didn't have to wear a splint but wore double cloth nappies until I was 18 months. The nappies were enough to push my hips to where they should be and keep them there.

Have had no problems since then.
