    Default Hey Canucks!

    Hey there!

I'm originally from Burlington/Cambridge Ontario and I've lived in Perth for 4 yrs now. I just love Perth personally and I'm quite happy to be raising my family here. My hubby is an Aussie who I met when I was here on holidays. He isn't a fan of -30C weather and I quite like not shovelling snow it so it was decided we'd park our bottoms in good ol' Perth.

What's brought other Canucks to the land of Oz?

hello hello! We spent 4 years in Perth before moving to Melbourne nearly 2 years ago. I wonder if our paths crossed?

We moved here for work, both of us in the mining consulting industry.

I agree with you about it being hard to be away from mom with a baby. My son was the first grandchild on all sides so that made it harder for my parents - they wanted to spoil him so they had to do it before he was born. They ended up having to fly out 4 days before he was born there was no rushing his arrival.

I never made it to PEI but it looks so amazing. Many of my family live out that way.

It is hard at a distance. I've been home twice with DD (she's nearly 4), my parents have visited once, and we've had a few of our siblings visit too. If you ever need any suggestions on how to cope flying so long with bubs, there are plenty of members on here who can help.

I just noticed this part of the message board, can't believe I didn't see it before.

We moved from Fort McMurray, Alberta and have been living in Brisbane since June. I'm originally from Brockville, Ontario though.

My husband is a mining engineer so mostly we came for work opportunities, but also to try something different for a while. So far we love it here.

We nearly wound up working in Fort MacMurray, but winters there were just going to be too long.

We're in mining too. Nice way to see the world, but mostly they're in nasty spots.

Yes, even in Australia there are lots of mining jobs. Unfortunately we wouldn't want to live in most of those places.

We were actually set to move to Hunter Valley, NSW. My husband had a job offer there and one in Brisbane, so we figured we'd try Brisbane.

In a couple of years we might be moving up to the Whitsunday's area because the new oil shale mine should be opening up there.

    Hi All,

    If you are still around???

I met my Aussie DH in Vancouver. He was living and working there for 2 years before we met. After 5 yrs together we moved to Perth. He had a good job offer in Aviation and he has a nice close family here and we were thinking of buying a house which we could not afford in Vancouver, even with both of us working then.

Perth has good and bad things...and so does Vancouver...I sure miss my old friends and my old work, but I love being a mum and wouldn't give up what I have now for anything.

FortMacmom - My mom lives there!!! I lived there for 1 yr in 1999 and went to Keyano. Coldest winter I remember living through
