    Default Paternal Assisted Caesarean?

Is there such a thing as this? Was just searching for something and re-found mamaduke's thread on maternal assisted c-sections and wondered if there is such a thing as a paternal assisted one. In the event my birth ends up as a caesarean for some reason I'd love DH to be involved if that is possible.

Well since a c/s is an emergency procedure it's difficult to think about anyone helping. If you are having a c/s and there is time for help maybe it's not necessary.

The only reasons for an elective c/s are also to do with medical emergencies, e.g. placenta previa and the potential risks to mother and baby would still preclude outside assistance.

If partners really want to be involved it's best to plan a normal birth and see what happens.

I'm sure it would be possible in the event of an elective c/section but for an emergency c/section I highly doubt it.

The maternal assisted caesarean was devised purely for women who are mourning the loss of being able to have a vaginal birth, so I can imagine if you have tried and fought for all other avenues for VB and been turned down, it might be something a surgeon (who is open minded) might consider.

It is something that has to be pre-organised, so for a first-timer for whom birth is a big uncharted territory, a maternal/paternal assisted c/sec is not something a surgeon would discuss with you.

However, Birthrites has ideas for a plan 'c' and how to make it more positive. There is a link on this site: www.birthrites.org.

I hope you don't need to use a plan 'c'
