The good for me was the private room, the large birth suite, the regular visits from lactation consultants, physios etc, the weekend paper and the location.

The negatives were some of the evil nighttime midwives who were very harsh imo to be, being a new mother who was learning the ropes.

All in all though, I'd be happy to go back there again for my next bubba.

So far I have nothing but praise for the Wesley. I haven't had my bub yet...going in tomorrow for a c-section so if I remember I'll come back and let you know how things were. But like I said so far everyone that I've had to deal with (ante natal classes, b/f class, booking in) have been really nice & helpful.

My bub was born at the Wesley by emergency c-section on the 4th of August (1 mth ago). I found the staff all great (no horrible mid wives at all!), The food and room were great too. Shared bathroom was not an issue (between 2 rooms). The view from some rooms is over the river so is really nice too. There is one 'special' room with its own bathroom and spa bath, but i didnt even see that one.. oh, well, maybe next time....NOT!!

I would recommend the Wesley to anyone. No negatives for me...

Another great thing is that they have an operating room as part of their labour ward. you get there and get to see your bub a lot quicker .

    Goodluck with your birth.

The enormously high c/section rate is enough to put me off

It's not bad..but I never saw a Lactation Consultant despite asking for one. I was just handed a brochure from a Midwife who told me to find and ring one myself when I got home if I was having troubles. The lady in the room next to me was having a great consult with one though (you can hear everything when you are in the shared bathroom). The private rooms were small, and if you have a long stay like I did, you can go a bit barmy. I did experience one of those grumpy night time Midwives that was described above though.

I would say that The Wesley is a "nice" private Maternity hospital but my experience was a bit hit and miss and that seems to be the case for my friends who went there too.

    Default Thanks Everyone

Thank you all for your replies. It is all well and good to have a tour of the hospital etc, but until you talk to some one about their experiences you just don't know.
    Thanks again

    Hi Babycake,

I had both of my children in the Wesley.

My first I have nothing but good things to say about all the staff and the rooms/food etc. I also had a first baby who seemingly knew what to do with feeding etc so I didn't have any real dramas. For first time mums I thought they were great and so helpful.

My second - again I found the delivery room staff absolutely awesome. I then got moved into a massive room with a double bed and that was great. They did seem to be a bit short staffed at the time(May 06) and some of the midwives I was not crazy about. It seemed to me that as this was my second child that I should know what to do(which I didn't). I did have a problem with feeding my second bub though and found that I really did not get any help with that at all. I was also given a phone number and told to see a Lactation consultant when we were out of the hospital. My baby did not attach once during my four day stay and she lost more than the apparently acceptable amount of weight after birth. I was syringe feeding her and very much stressing out. The midwives and the paed we had said it will come when we are in our own environment. Well long story short it didn't come!!

Overall though if we were to have another that is where I would go again as my OB delivers there(DR Turner) and I thought he was the greatest....

    sorry for the essay

    Hi Gracesmum,
Thanks for your reply. I have Doctor Turner too, I think he is wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble and he has a great sense of humour. I have heard a few comments about the midwives being a nasty there, but will wait and see.
    Thanks Again

    Hi Babycake,

Well I've now had bub and I can now let you know what my experience was like. I thought the Wesley was fantasic. The middy's were really great, I especially liked one...lovely girl I even got a pic of her with bub. The only thing is that you have to be proactive with things as the middy's seem to have quite alot of patients to look after. I had to remind them about my pain meds & I had to ask a few times to see a lactation consultant. Overall I had a great experience and I will be going back to them for my next.

    Good luck with everything!
