Default Baby-led weaning what do you think?

As DD is 8 months and still not eating much solids (basically will eat yoghurt and pureed fruit only, and sometimes not even those) I'm having to get creative and am considering the Gill Rapley Baby-led weaning approach. Has anyone tried it? It sounds good but I'm very nervous about bub choking, and don't want to have to start slapping her on the back!!! . Also I was looking for the DVD and it cost !!!$137 online from an Aust bookstore.

I did it with both of my boys, and they never had any trouble, babies/children are really good at getting rid of stuff out of their mouths if it is too much for them, it is a survival instinct after all.

I never act when my kids need to get stuff up, I just watch and wait, I've never had to intervene, they do just fine.

I have done it with my daughter... here is a great blog with recipes and tips about choking etc. http://babyledweaning.blogware.com/

I wouldn't bother with the DVD, it is unnecessary.

I have loved it! She is such a good little eater, and it is so easy feeding her a little messy, but she has so much fun, and I don't have to worry about shovelling stuff in her mouth
I have two boobs for a reason:

Although I didn't follow a specific "model" I did it with DS- in that he rejected mushed up food we tried to feed him, and only wanted to eat the foods he could feed himself. It took him a while to really get into his food, however- he is now 10mnths, and only really eats finger foods, is very proficient, and absolutely loves his food.

You'd be amazed at their ability to brings things back up that go down the wrong way- they are very intuitive and have great gag reflexes.

Good luck- it is lots of fun!
