I am desiding if it would be better for my son at 17.5months old to go to a big bed or have him cosleep with us untill he is ready for a big bed as our newborn will be in the cot. (we dont have room for 2 cots)

All mine have been about 2 to 3 years old as this is when they start climbing out of the cot.

we put our son in a big bed cause he was climbing out all the time as another memeber mentioned....he was two and a few months...it was a little hard for him but within the week he got much better and is happy now he has a wiggles blanket so that helps...he calls it the wiggles bed!

i think if you co-sleep it will make his transition harder when the time comes....good luck with whatever you decide though

I ticked "12-18 months" we haven't yet, but we're just waiting on buying a mattress and it'll be done.

We had the same issue with DS. We decided to move him to a big bed at 18mths because DD was due when he was 20mths. We bought a bed safety rail for him and, considering his sleep patterns, he did really well. We were lucky enough to have use of SIL bassinet so that allowed extra time to adjust - not that he needed it in the end.

I suggest just trying it out. If your worried about him falling out or anything just put the mattress on the floor til he's used to it.

    Goodluck

BTW I think DS slept at g'ma's the night before we tried & that was in a big bed, I think this also helped as it was a novelty!

We did whatever we could to keep Ronan in his cot for longer because he loved it so much and would sleep beautifully in it, even if he did hop in at night and out in the morning on his own!

Ariene was born when he was 20 months, and we had a bassinette for her first 3 months. Then we borrowed an old cot for her to sleep in for another 3. So Ronan was nearly 2.5 and because he had a car bed in his room that entire time to get used to it, he was totally ready and excited to sleep in his big bed!
