    Default divits in fingernails

Has anyone else experienced divets in their nails.

I've noticed only on my left pinky nail where the down near the cuticle, that my nail is growing with heaps of divets. Looks like severe hail damage on my nail.

Is this a sign of vitamin deficiency. I have started taking multivitamins to boost my system anyway.

Hopefully someone can shed some light. TIA

are you pregnant? if so i think they are called corregations disorder I think so long since i did nail tech school!

when ur pg u can get ridges type things in ur nails and they usually go once u deliver!

otherwise it sounds like u may have damaged the matrix. its like the memory of the nail u might have bumped it or something and it will probably come out like that forever! just rub some really good cuticle oil into it and it should soften up but there is not really much u can do.... hope that helps

'Pitting' on the fingernails can also be a sign of psoriasis, even before any skin irritation shows.
This is how my doctor diagnosed my psoriatic arthritis when I was pregnant. I didn't have any psoriasis at the time and I only have one 'pit' on the nail of my index finger.
I hope it's not psoriasis and is easily fixed with multivitamins etc......

    Hi Missytia

Did you develop any psoriasis? Is there a family history of it?

I'm a chronic psoriasis sufferer & TTC atm, so I can take methotrexate as is causes birth defects & have tried all the tar preparations etc

It's not too bad atm, but the cold weather seems to flare it up, any ideas?

Thanx & sorry for the late post!!!

Okay...I'm consulting one of my text books from when I was training to be Beautician. Here's what it MAY be...

"Beau's Lines" - Caused by illness/disease that causes interruption of nail growth

That could mean that, while you may not have been MAJORLY sick, when your body is fighting off illness, it will often stop or slow down on the things un-necessary for you to get better (like growing your nails).

    OR

Verruca Vulgaris (Nail Wart) - a contageous virus which causes the nail to become bumpy and uneven. It is contageous.

    Hope that helps!

I know that vertical ridges, like corragation, is due to iron deficiency. My nails are like that when my iron levels drop. I also have dents in my nails from having acrylics, getting impatient and ripping them off. They permanently have dents in them due to that.

I have been wondering the same thing. I am in the same boat as you. I have been bf for about 7 months now and i've had the same thing on virtually ALL my nails for a good 3 months (that i've noticed).

I have an appointment with a naturopath on Friday for DS's reflux, i wonder if she'll answer my nail question about me, or will she tell me i have to make another app. and pay again to see me?

If i find out anything, i will let you know.
