Default What To Pack in "Carry-on" baggage!

Okay, what will I need to pack to take on the plane with a 14 month old.

Can I take on colouring in pencils? or crayons?

It'll be a virgin flight, so I don't know if they will give him anything to do.

I think they sell packs of crayons/colouring book etc on board for about $8.00 or so. But in my experience they are more aimed at the older kids (3+) and the crayons are those little tiny ones

so taking your own might be easier - but be prepared for him to chuck them on the floor! and good luck finding/reaching them then!

I've flown quite a few times with my girls and the best things I have found are food (sandwiches/biscuits/water/fruit/sultanas etc) and cardboard books with big bright pictures. Plus a breast feed or dummy for take off and landing. Oh and some wipes for quick clean ups.

I have learnt to take the minimum on board because it's too hard to get anything out when you're stuck in your seat with a toddler in your lap!

    good luck!

How long is the flight Seek? I'm flying in March with an 21-month-old, so I'll be watching this thread for ideas!

My flight is about eight hours, and I'm not really looking forward to it!

    Ooh, we're going for 2 x 1.5 hour flights and 2 x 3 hour flights!
    Not as long as yours!

Yours adds up to the same as mine!!

I have flown before with my son, but he was about four months and eight months at the time, so not quite as curious as a toddler will be!

It's gonna be interesting. I'm planning to take some books, a new toy that he hasn't seen before and snacks. I'm also going to try and let him walk up the aisles a few times. I'm sure I'll get some disapproving looks, but he needs to stretch his legs and check the place out!

I found that at that age, thoes washable markers were better, they were easier for the little ones to draw with and they just wiped off the trays with baby wipes

if you have a magna doodle that would be better, take a few special toys as well,

i've been flying with DS since he was 8wks old, and the older they get the harder they are to entertain lol,

what time is ya flight? I have this trick where I try and keep DS awake for as long as possible and he wil usually sleep on the plan from just after take off till landing with the short flights

yeah< I was thinking new toy/book for him... I read somewhere for kids to pack a present for every hour of flight... I thought that was a cool idea.
2 flights are daytime (although I could discourage his nap until then..) the other two are late night (for sleep and to minimise the amount of passengers.)

I always pack a lot - books, snacks, sticker books, drawing things, and a blanket of some description. A portable dvd for older children can be a godsend. virgin don't provide anything - you buy everything you need on board - personally I have found their cheese and cracker packs a big hit with my kids!
