    Default pregnancy and c-sections

I had my caesar 7 months ago and have healed well. I was wondering what the general guideline is on when you can fall pregnant again without risk of uterine and scar rupture?

I was told 12 months but it seems to vary from Dr to Dr. 2 girls I know of who had c sections around the same time as me are already pregnant and they seem to be ok. If your worried maybe have a check up with your OB so they can have a look at the scaring and give you a more personal idea

I think the general recommendation is to wait 12 months before TTC.

A lot of women have waited WAY less time and gone on to have fine babies... but I think it's sensible to wait at least 12 months anyway.

My OB told me at my 6wk check-up that I could fall pregnant any time from then if my head and heart so desired.

I asked my ob at my 6 week checkup and she said that she would prefer if I waited around 6 months before falling pregnant again but that if it happened sooner that everything would probably be fine.

The general recommended waiting time is 12 months, not for uterine scar rupture (the risk of that is only 0.05%, compared to 0.02% for a vaginal birth after vaginal birth)... it is more for the risk of the new placenta adhering to the c/s scar. The older the scar, the less likely the placenta will adhere to it.

Speak to your OB. It really can depend on your OB & hospital policy, as well as your own personal recovery. I fell PG with DS when DD was 7 months old (born via c/s) and there was never any drama. In fact, if my DH weren't so utterly terrified of having 3 kids under the age of 3, I could probably be convinced to go for #3 now!!

I've also heard that with VB or C-sec, 12 months is recommended purely so your body can recover from pregnancy and birth before putting it through the whole process again. It's not about scar troubles or anything like that... just to let your body get over it.

    Makes sense.

My Hospital booklet said 12 months for your body to be completely healed.

I recently asked a GP the same question, and he told me that a Doctor he knew (and is now de-registered) used to say to women, 'it depends whether you're going public or private'
