Default 2 Year Old Making Transition to Zero Sleeps

DD has always been a good sleeper.

Recently she has not been having her sleep every day.....I am not sure how I am going to cope if she does eventually drop it.

If she does not have a sleep she is unusally whingy and all round time consuming. It does my head in.

So she really does need that sleep but other than putting her in her room for quiet time every day I am not sure what else I can do?

We are going through this too (But ds is 3 next week so a bit older)

Its a nightmare hey, by about 3-4ish he is chucking tanties left right and centre coz his so tired

I sometimes do the room thing when I know he really needs a sleep

Otherwise I put a dvd on and get him to lay on the lounge with his pillow and a nice blankie
this way if his tired he will usually fall asleep while watching the movie OR if he stays awake at least his had some down time

Gd luck with it, its not much fun

Oh what I'd give to get an extra 12 months of day time sleeps out of her!

She is just having an all round horrid day and I am so frustrated with her. Might call DH to come home early to save her from me!

I think sometimes WE are the ones who need time out LOL

Mines in his room playing quietly
his probably trashing his room or at least dismantaling his bed (his latest fave thing to do)

Thanks NM....I am hoping it is just a stage....she has done a few stages of a few days in a row not sleeping but then she'll slip into a massive phase of sleeping 2-3 hours.

I think I am disappointed as we are planning #2 and cannot fathom a non day sleeper with a newborn

My DD droped her day sleep from 18m so i know how you are all feeling. The best thing i did is bring forward dinner to 4pm and bed to 6pm. She was up at 6 in the morning but at least the afternoon didn't seem to drag on and DH and i had some quiet time.

I also encouraged quiet time in her room but this was sometimes a screaming match so i didn't bother for long.

Yes dinner early is a must if they dont have a sleep

I Also find a nice warm bath settles my son if his really over tired and hasnt had a nap....it calms him and makes him human again

A good kids show or movie sounds good to me, gives you some time out too and DD some much needed rest. My DD has been sleeping ok during the day but bedtime is getting later and later.........seems I want her to drop her daytime sleep so that she'll go to bed and be asleep by 6 or 7pm instead of 9 or 10pm
When your new bub arrives, you'll find it much easier if you have a set routine for your DD to have a rest at a certain time each day. I also try and take the kids out in the morning so that it tires my 2 year old.

    Good luck
