    Question Anyone deliver at Caboolture?

    Hi Ladies,

Seeing as we may be more likely to get a place down Caloundra way I have the option of having #3 at Caboolture (was given it last time but didn't take it) so I was just wondering if any of you would share your experience with me to help me make up my mind.

    TIA
    Natalie

We have just moved to Canberra from Caboolture.

I had Isaac at Caboolture Hospital and can not give more praise to the hospital and the staff.

The midwives there were all absolutely wonderful, couldn't do enough to help me out. Being my first child, I was pretty nervous about everything to do with my delivery and what I'd do after bubs was born! Everyone at the hospital was so, so great though, really put me at ease.

I think it helped that I had a super fast, no complications birth....all the staff were still fantastic though. I'm hoping we're back up Caboolture way by the time #2 comes along!

I'm at Caloundra & had my two at Nambour. Distance-wise it's pretty much six of one, half a dozen of the other, as they say. I LOVED NGH! They were so fantastic there & are a great hospital if you'd like a lot of BF support, as they are now Baby Friendly accredited.

I do however have a friend with 2 boys the same ages as my kids & she had hers both at Caboolture & raved about them also.

Thanks yeah I had my first two at NGH and had no issues with my support during labour but I have found the antenatal and post birth care a bit lacking especially in comparison to the Cairns antenatal care (they've literally bent over backwards for me up here)

So I know I will have the support at crunch time but wanted to actually have a look this time.

I like the idea of only sharing with only one other person in the room afterwards and not to have to leave the room to shower or go to the toilet.

I'm not too hassled either way though just shopping around a little bit I guess.

ETA: I really do hope they have improved in the BFing area since I last time... though I guess half the problem was they were understaffed and totally full both times but it didn't help when Iw as a first time mum and had a baby who couldn't attach and we had to wait up to 45 mins for help (with me trying hopelessly to attach him and ended up very grazed and sore from it) then was put onto a nipple shield by one of the really nice middies and only to be beratted for using it by an LC, when I was just relieved he could BF.

Hi, I'm only new here tonight. Hope you don't mind me answering you question.

I have a friend who went to Caboolture, they have a midwifery program there (apparently they have the lowest C/S rate in the Brisbane area). Its called Holding hands (I think), the program is designed so you birth with a known midwife and have a more personalised care model.

They visited my friend for about 5 weeks after she had her baby too, which I thought was pretty speesh.

    Hi Little Chookie,
    Welcome to Bubhub!
Thanks for that, sounds like a good program.

By the way I don't think how long you've been a member should matter if you think you can answer some one's question.

howdie just wanted to share my 5c hehe

Ive only been on sunshine coast for about 6 weeks but been to both NGH & Caboolture antenatal clinics. Ive heard great things about both. I first started going to NGH but found the emergency department and the anti-clinic to be pretty below standard! Ive been to 1 antenatal appointment in few weeks #2 and the general atmosphere and level of care is amazing. And as Little Chookie said they've put me with 1 midwife and OB who will most likely be the midwife & OB i see all the way through. Also cos i live outside of their district i can stay longer than their "72" ave stay! because i cant have a nurse to come out and see me and the baby. The other thing is if you want to talk to an OB after your midwife appointment you can wait and they'll get you in If you want to know more feel free to pm me i just feel im acknoledged as a patient and not as a guineapig! Arrrgggg high risk pregnancy 6 hospitals over 3 states and 1 territory i know what i like PMSL!

Sorry cant help with the birthing side of things but im checking out the birthing suit in couple weeks time.

I dont know how u can compare them really. NGH is much busier than Caboolutre hospital and there for isnt able to give the attention that u are looking for. I guess u girls have to remember that it is the public system and it changes from day to day. Really what do u expect for a free service? NGH is getting to busy and its the governments fault for not buliding the new hospital sooner. The emergency dept may seem below standard to u, but ican tell u that its not. How do i know? Cause i have just come off a shift of working there. People wait up to 4-5 hrs to be seen because there are very sick people that they dont see being wheeled in by ambos that have 1st priority. We had people ambos lining our corridors tonight cause there wasnt enough beds. What u think is a low standard of care is really a hospital trying to cope with the demands that are placed on it. Im sorry to sound a bit cranky but the Drs and nurses work very hard in tough conditions and it sorta peeves me off when people say a facilty is below standard because they arnt seen by a Dr for minor things straight away when it would take pressure off the system if they just went to their local GP.
As for the care at NGH when having a baby I cant rave about it enough and ask Mrs Miggins as well. There is not time limit on how long u stay (but of course u cant stay 2 weeks) As long as there is a vaild reason for u to stay then no pt gets kick out. Midwives also visit people who have gone home that need after service. At the antenatal clinics they allow u to see Drs if u have a true concern, but really why would u wanna take up their time when midwives answer the questions just as good?
Both NGH and Caboolture run under Queesland health and u will find that all Queensland health hospitals run under the same principles. Nambour is directed by RBH in brissy and im sure caboolutre is as well. so really its all the same, the walls may look different and the Drs and Nurses are different but the policies are pretty much the same!

Sorry if what have posted has upset you, wasn’t mean to offend anyone its just my experiences while I have been there.
As for emergency, The treat meant i received there was appalling with the simple fact i was humiliated when a nurse instead of asking me, flung the blanket over and looked down my underpants!!! Fine I guess i shouldn’t expect better. Following that the letter of discharge i was given to pass on to my GP, had some elderly patients details on it and reason for being admitted treatment while there blah blah blah, below on the same letter was a couple sentences explaining my treatment etc! AND after pointing this out to the doc on duty asking for another letting with my details, i was promptly told it wasn’t important. So much for patient confidentiality!
But your exactly right, NGH and Caboolture shouldn’t be compared nor any hospital for that matter, as their are excellent doctors and nurses who strive to do their best. Sorry for expressing my experience.

Well.... I dunno about that!! I was in there for a week with Owen & when I was trying to arrange to get checked out, the middies were all trying to convince me to stay even longer!!

Also antlmummy, just addressing your concerns re: BFing - I had the same concerns after being unable to successfully BF my daughter. I didn't think the help I was given after I had her was particularly good, but being a first-time mum, I had no idea what sort of help I needed. When I had DS, I explained my concerns & the problems I had with DD & they were all nothing short of excellent. I would even go so far as to say that it would be next to impossible to be discharged before you were feeding confidently without them lining you up with some help beforehand.

4 months later, my son is a BIG, happy, healthy, fully BF boy (not even so much as a bottle of expressed milk!) and I would say this is largely thanks to the excellent help I received in hospital after he was born.
