Unhappy Sucking his bottom lip, Any advice NEEDED NOW PLEASE

Well my son is 2 in 2 weeks time, and he has got into the habit of sucking his bottom lip...

I am at a loss at to why, and how to stop him!

I have tried ignoring it at first, as kids usually keep doing things when attention is paid to it...but it continued so I have also tried punishing him with taking toys away, asking him to stop, telling him to stop.....

But nothing is working...I dont want his teeth to become bucked, and it will happen if he keeps it up. He does it when he's sleeping, when he's awake, playing, reading....ALL the time

    Anyone someone please help!!!!!

I don't have any ideas on how to get him to stop but I saw on tv ('Whats good for you') that children who have habits which can cause problems with their teeth (dummy and finger sucking among them) should only worry if they continue once their adult teeth come in. He probably will stop this habit once hes older or will be old enough to try and stop himself.

    Hope that helps

Personally, I dont see the issue . Millions of children suck thumbs and have dummies and only a small percentage of that end up with teeth issues.

It sounds like a soothing or unconscious habit which Im sure he will grow out of when hes ready.

p.s. I think that was my post - I did post and now its gone. I did delete one so maybe I deleted the wrong one Anyway, mystery solved .

Ahhh. ok. Yes, my son is a chronic thumb sucker and gets a caloused (sp?) thumb from doing that but the skin is less obvious and tougher on the thumb. Sorry, no constructive ideas then. Will have a think.

You could try rubbing a hand cream or something similar just under his lip (something safe but he wont like the taste of.) Hopefully a bad taste will stop him from doing it.

I thought about doing that, putting something under his lip, but I dont know what....he loves vegemite and doesnt seem to worry about the taste of creams, he ate Sudocrem for crying out loud .......

I thought about asking the doctor, but he doesnt have a specific doctor and the doctors we go to treat me as though I'm an idiot for being concerned over these littler issues..IYKWIM

    Thanks for the suggestions ladies
