Default Is post appendectomy pain like post csection pain?

Hi all - I may well be having a c section in Oct. My biggest fear is my recovery from my appendectomy a few years ago - it was the worst pain I have ever been in in my life, and I couldn't stand up straight for at least five weeks, I was in tears with the pain every day for weeks, and I wasn't fully recovered for probably three months. I have no idea if this was due to a bad surgery (seems unlikely, I had head of the private section of St Vs in Sydney) or just that I have a very low pain threshold - which is entirely possible and I'm not embarassed about it if that's the case!

Anyway - wanted to know how similar the operations are, am I likely to expect the same level of pain and bad recovery? Anyone had similar experience? Bad appendectomy recovery followed by csection?

Did you have keyhole surgery for your appendix? The reason I ask is because this is what I had so I can help you compare pain if you had a similar surgery.

I had my appendix out many years ago (not keyhole) and I swear that my appendix recovery was worse than my c-sections recovery.

ETA: I was out of bed with my 1st c-section within 3 hours and walking around.

My 2nd c-section I had her late at night and was out of bed early the next morning.

With my appendix I was out of bed within 12 hours.

I've had both surgeries, my appendectomy was not keyhole and I found I was fine after 24 hours.

I have had 2 caesareans and was also walking around after 24 hours. However, I found that the recovery was a lot longer and was in pain for ages afterwards. I have a very high pain threshold (due to multiple cranial and hip surgeries), and I broke my pelvis and lower back in a car accident 12 years ago as well.

I hope that all goes well for you, just remember to ask for pain releif regularly and take it easy.

    GOOD LUCK

I had keyhole appendectomy and then got married three days later I hobbled down the aisle. oh yeah and the funniest bit I had the surgery on Christmas Eve

I was in pain after the op but it wasn't severe pain. I had morpheine for the first 24hrs and then panadeine forte.

My c-sections were worse to recover from. My first c-section was an emergency one and the second was elective.

So I'm not sure if my experience helps you at all.

I may not be able to help at all as i had a keyhole appendectomy. I found that i recovered better from my c-section but i think that was only because i had a very bad reaction to the anesetic (sp) when i had my appendix out. Other then that i had just about no pain after both ops and was refusing pain relife whithin 12 hours of each opp. It seems that i have a high pain threashold told you i wouldnt be much help.

    Thanks all.

No, it wasn't keyhole appendectomy (unfortunately, or I wouldn't have this enormous scar on my tummy).

I envy those of you with high pain thresholds!

    hello!
I have zero pain threshold. Am absolute whoose (how do you spell that?)

    Was in agony after appendix.
    Found c/s totally fine!
Ok sure, it's surgery and so it hurts, but they give you pain relief.

I still have memories of hobbling around and not being able to stand up straight for days/weeks? after my appendix was taken out.

All I remember (8 months later) after my c/s is what an exceptionally wonderful birthing experience it was (frankly having my left arm hacked off with a blunt knife would be less painful than the vaginal delivery I had with DD1).
    LOL.

    Good luck!

My appendectomy was many many years ago...(don't ask), but I still remember it well and was in hospital from Sunday to Thursday. I got out of hospital after less than 4days with my first c/section, was 5days with number 2, but that was because I wanted to savour being just me and DD.

For both my c/sections the recovery was better (from memory) No keyhole surgery for the appendectomy (nor for the c/sections LOL).

I think the main reason I found the c/sections better was because I hated being heavily pregnant - no energy, uncomfortable, heartburn etc. Once the baby was out, I found I had heaps more energy (okay had to walk carefully for first couple of days, but didn't take too long).

Main hinderance to recovery from a c/section I think is if your bubba gets up too many times at night so you get sleep deprived

I havn't had my appendix out or a c/s,but i think that a c/s would be less painful.

I think because you are having a part of your body removed is why it hurts so much.

I had my gallbladder removed and that was very painful, worse than labour.
