Hi Ladies! I have a 2 year old son who attends family daycare, luckily he is only with two other 2 year old boys though they certainly share their germs amongst each other. With winter almost here, and him being newly diagnosed with asthma I am keen to keep him as healthy as I can. This means I have cancelled swimming this year now that it is cooler, I will keep him rugged up and inside as much as I can. He eats really well though I will continue with a basic multi vitamin for children and having a Yakult each morning, just wondering what other things I can do? I know colds are inevitable especially at his age though after ideas of what you do to keep your little one as healthy as possible? What is a good probiotic that you use? Thanks heaps :goodvibes:

My 13mth old has had a poo day :( She has soiled her nappy 4 times already today and each time the poo smelt odd, sometimes slightly watery. Maybe kind of acidic. Anyway, before the last change she just started crying, really really crying & when I picked her up she was holding onto me so tightly and crying out. I knew something was wrong. So I checked her nappy and she had done another one. But the poor little things bottom was so red! It was very sore. So ive covered it in bepanthen and she is happy now. So in the space of around 1hr between poos, this last one has really burnt her bottom very quickly. This has happened a couple of times before over the last month. I thought it might be an allergy but I cant pinpoint any different foods that's she's eaten. Its odd because the consistency isn't really diarrhea, but seems to have watery and solid formed parts to it. Has anyone else's bubs experienced this? Im going to mention it to the health nurse next week.

I have a 5 month old baby who is exclusively bf. His poo has always been a bit explosive like, often smell like rotten eggs and have never really had any curdy/seedy bits in them. I'm just wondering if this could be a sign of some sort of allergy to something I am eating? He's not gaining weight very fast and I've mentioned the poo to nurses before and they havent been particularly worried, but we saw a paediatrician on an unrelated matter the other week and she was a little concerned about them being smelly and not curdy - she didn't elaborate but we go back in 2 months to see how he's going. Has anyone else encountered similar issues with their babies and did it turn out to be an allergy?

Has anyone got any experience with this? I'm starting to think my 11yr old DS may be suffering anxiety.

He seems to develop tummy aches right before we need to go somewhere, struggles to speak to people he doesn't know really well, won't talk on the phone unless its someone he speaks to often etc.
tonight I was taking him to scouts, he was fine until we got there then said his stomach hurt. I told him he would be fine and watched him walk inside. About 20minutes later the scout leader called to say he was refusing to come inside, complaining of a stomach ache and just generally distressed.
I went back and he got upset saying that 'something' was stopping him from going in and that he 'just couldn't do it. He wasn't in uniform tonight as its packed away while we renovate and he got upset again saying he couldn't go in there without full uniform even though the leaders knew and reassured him it wasn't a problem etc.

Just doing a bit of reading and social anxiety seems to explain a lot of his behaviors (he also has ADHD) but thought I'd see if anyone else out there has been through anything similar.

Im at a loss and wondering if anyone has any ideas that might help.
(If you already know me/my story, you know that my dd has a serious heart condition but I don't think that's the problem, it's monitored closely).
Anyway, recently the paed thought she has cmpi but she didn't have a lot of symptoms. Still doesn't. She had some blood in her stools after some bad constipation.
She is starting to have more frequent screaming fits. Shes had four in the last few days. They are very distressing because she gets so distraught her heart rate increases and her oxygen drops and she goes a bit blue. Not nice.
That aside I burp her, sometimes she has wind, sometimes she farts. The screaming is not consistent wuth times or in conjunction with food. She's on zantac for reflux and coloxyl for constipation. She's on regular formula now not prescription which she was. She genuinely seems in some kind of pain but I don't know what it is.
Could it still be cmpi even though she really had no symptoms? I think this is what the paed will say...she hates the prescription formula.
Could teething cause this much pain? Its s high pitched scream that lasts ten minutes, sometimes more or less. I gave her nurofen tonight because im at a loss. Im keeping a diary to detail to her doctors.
Anyone have any ideas?

DS has always been a bit of a light weight (well since he was about 2, he was 9lb born lol) and has gone through stages where he's not gained for a long time. The only times he's lost is when he was 3-4 months old and when he had his appendix out in 2011 (he stopped eating for 4 days).

We weighed him a few months ago and he was 26.something so we thought he was finally starting to put on some bulk. Last night Ds was wondering around without a shirt on and DH commented on just how skinny he is so put him on the scales. 24.5kg....he's lost about 2kg.

He's eating a decent size meal finally. That took a lot to get him to move from toddler size meals but he's actually eating the typical amount for a 9 year old now. I don't know what I can give him to help him gain weight. We're making the change to a vegan diet so Sustagen and other whey based things aren't an option.

If any one has suggestions that would be wonderful.

So my DS2 was left with my mother, while I went for a drs appointment yesterday. And when I got back she told me he was shivering and that his lips went blue for a moment, and so put a jumper on him.
My house was a bit nippy, but nothing he hasn't coped with before.

Today, we went to DS1's special kinder. DS2 played outside and what have you, ate. And fell asleep before we left.
AS we were leaving, the moment he came outside, again he started to shiver, and his lips went blue. He was decked out in a warm winter 2 piece outfit, socks and a legless onesie.
The moment we got home he was fine.

I have never seen my kids cold before, so this was certainly new. The only thing that seems to be common in both scenarios, is it happens after a nap. And the environment was feeling a bit cold.
SO I am wondering if he is coming down with something...
He has just gotten over another cold and ear infection, finished a course of antibiotics.

My DD is 8 nearly 9 and in the 3rd grade. Last year she had horrible bouts of tummy pains, fevers and headaches after months of doctors visits she was sent to a surgeon who did exploratory surgery and found she had Mesenteric Ardenitis (inflamed lymph nodes around the organs in her tummy) which had caused her appendix to get a little inflamed. So he removed her appendix but she will still get Mesenteric Ardenitis when run down. Since Saturday night she has been complaining of headaches and tummy pains, the thing is I know she is exhausted and run down as she takes dance classes and has been studying and doing practice tests like mad for naplan (even though we have told her it won't affect her grade) she is a perfectionist we are getting her into talk to someone because of how she stresses but that is another story. So this morning I let her sleep in and have the day off and she wasn't very happy about that when she woke up but soon got over it, she has been resting all day but is still in heaps of pain. I rang to get her a Drs appointment but apparently everyone in my small town is sick and I can't get her in until tomorrow and when I told her this she threw the biggest tantrum about missing another day of school. I don't want to send her and have her get worse but I don't want her stressing about missing school and getting worse so I am asking for opinions on what to do

I'm not sure if this is the right spot, but hoping I can get some feedback all the same.

DS is 6 years old. He's lost just about all of his baby teeth and his adult molars are coming up at the very back.
In a nutshell ,back in February this year, he lost his top middle front tooth and the little one right next to it at the same time. His adult top front tooth started coming down within a few days and occupied both vacant spots. I noticed that this tooth is really wide and the gap between the 2 front teeth is huge.
I also noticed that the tooth next to it, has not come down as yet.

So I took him to the dentist for a check up, and they took xrays.

Basically, yes the gap between to the two top teeth is way to wide, the tooth that has not yet come down, is in the gum and ready, it's just stuck as there is no room for it to come down due the wide gap and the size of the front tooth.

So noooooow, the dentist has referred us to an Ortho for the possibility of braces  to pull the front two teeth together to allow the other adult teeth to come down out of the gum.

His xray also showed the remaining 3 adult teeth in the lower gums, ready for when those final baby teeth fall out.

I had the same problem with my teeth when I was young, but I didn't get braces until I was 13.

I personally think that having them at 6 years old is a bit extreme.
And I don't have private health insurance so I don't think I could afford to pay for them anyway.

Sorry for the long post, and I hope it makes sense, but I'm just after some thoughts and opinions on this sort of dental procedure for such a young child.

TIA.

Oh Dear - my 7 year old DD has pinworms. We have treated the whole family with the chocolate blocks on advice from the pharmacist but what do I do about my 9 week old? He doesn't have any symptoms but DD has of course been all over him - even had her fingers in his mouth at times. I cringe at the thought. The pharmacist said to consult my GP and I'm happy to do that but appointments are so hard to get and I don't really want to waste her time if there is a standard treatment. I heard that there is a medicine available over the counter - can infants take that? Any advice?

Hi,
Wondering if im over-reacting or being reasonable. My partner smokes in the study. He doesnt smoke in the rest of the house as im a non-smoker and i dont want a smoky house - tthese rules were in place before bubs came along. Now that we have a baby and im aware of the sids risk i just cant stop worrying about it. My partner always closes the door. I said the other day i could smell it in the corridor and spoke to him about my concerns suggeating he only smoke outside. He doesnt think its an issue and instead of smoking outside he rolls up a towel and puts it by the bottom of the door. Mostly i dont smell the smoke. However, the baby's room is right next to the study. Currently baby is in our bedroom which is further away from the study. Am i being silly about having the baby in the room next door to where partner smokes? Like i said i hardly ever smell the smoke but it still worrys me. Partner has looked at sids website and is not concerned because he closes the door (and now puts towel at foot odoor). It still makes me uneasy as im thimking baby will have to transition to the new room soon and potentially smoke could still be in the air from him smoking in the next room.

My 19mth DS has recently been telling me 'bum sore' and every time I change his nappy, he will grab his genitals.

He also tries to scratch his anus (sorry tmi) and also the red line between his anus and scrotum. It appears to be a bit more raised now, but could just be more noticeable due to his behaviour.

I know the actual line is normal, but should it be causing him issues? Is it normal to be occasionally itchy, or should I go to a doctor?

He seems otherwise fine, but tonight his Dad did put Sudocream on it as he apparently noticed it was red (he texted).
