I was saying to DH before that this week we don't need daycare, we need day quarantine on acoount of our dd being unable to go to day care because of illness (I'm thinking nice white cubicles with wipe clean cushions and toys that are sterilised daily and dvds and fluids and a nurse) and it is just really bad timing for either of us to get out of work. I'm sure we have all had these days/weeks. Failing this, I need a rent-a-granny because the only granny that my dd has is broken ( :( ) and we can't call on her to mind dd for us any more.
So what do you need to make this ridiculous juggling act work?

Could anyone please enlighten me on job prospects with a TESOL postgrad. qualification? I'm referring to jobs in both the school and adult education sector. A friend who works in a community house doing ESL teaching said the sector has not been doing too well recently. If I do look at the teaching ESL-adult groups, I'd look at specializing in IELTS or so. Does anyone have any info please? Thanks a lot!

2) In your workplace, if someone goes part time after having a kid, is that managed effectively?
- Do managers hire more staff or cut work levels?
- Or is the part-timer expected to handle a full time workload over part time hours? Are other workers expected to pick up the slack and in doing so have above average workloads?

In my workplace one part-time mum heads up a busy team. When she is not at work other team members/leaders are expected to pick up the slack on top of their normal duties. I'm not mad at the mum (well not for this) but rather blame senior management for not managing work-loads and duty assignments properly.

In interested in others thoughts and experiences with similar situations.

So... Facebook 2IC Sheryl someone said its ok to cry at work.

Layla on the today show said its ok for Sheryl to do that as she's pretty much the boss. Layla said crying in the workplace can be manipulative and shows weakness. And in many cases of women being the underdog it's doubly important for women to show strength.

Apparently 42% of women cry in the workplace, and only 9 % of men.

Have you/do you cry at work?

Do you agree with Layla?

I only ever cried once in front of my female boss when i was very young..and I felt like a di@k. Never again. I think unless there are exceptional circumstances women should just get some balls. I've heard oftoo many women crying over trivial things (eg not getting along with other women in the office, wanting the window seat etc). Some women cry when they are being counseled for poor performance. Harden up!

I'm going back to work full time around July, it's at times a stressful job but ultimately very rewarding.

We had planned ttc around October so if we were successful I would be pregnant for the majority of employment. DS will be 18 months and will spend 3-4 days in daycare, my mum will have him the rest.I would also be driving 1 hour and 10 minutes to work each day. DH also works full time and is also 1 hour at least from work and he get up around 4.30-5.00am each day to leave.

Last time I was pregnant I stopped work at around 26 weeks due to high blood pressure.

Me going back to work will relieve a lot of financial burden for us in the longer term.

I'm interested in hearing about how other working families do this and make it work under similar circumstances... What things do you do that make it work for you?

TIA

How many hours per week do you have to study for (obviously this will vary but a general idea is good)?
I've heard the pay is pretty low, but just how low is it?
Is it an area where jobs are available or are there more workers than positions most of the time?

I'm in Albany (south WA) if that makes any difference.

Thanks!

I don't know what to do :( My DH is an incredibly moral person which I respect enormously, but I fear he is digging his professional grave by being the guy who complains to the union every time someone farts outside of the "award". I'm so worried about his reputation as one of "those" people. His boss is a bully and many people that work there have huge issues with this guy, but my DH is always the one that has to say something, make a fuss, go to the general manager etc. I'm sure he comes across as a nutter to the GM and even though his complaints are valid, nobody else makes them so he's the one who puts a spotlight on himself.

We have a similar person in my workplace and my DH can see that she is digging her own professional grave, but he can't see that he's doing the very same thing. I try to gently point it out to him but I think it just comes across that I'm being unsupportive of his cause.

I don't know why I'm posting here, just need to get it off my chest, but any hints as to how I can help him would be much appreciated :(

I work with all males in a small office where I am the 'admin' of the office.

For the past 5 months I have been left feeling excluded and discriminated against. I am always being left out of conversations and activities to the point my manager purposely doesn't invite me or uninvites me.

I went to the department manager last week and made him aware of how I feel but didn't raise a complaint. Since then my manager has been getting worse. He picks on me over everything and makes me feel stupid.

Today he said I 'mouthed off' about him when I was on my lunch break; which I did not and he wouldn't even listen to me when I tried to explain.

I am worried as I am 9 weeks pregnant and I have been so stressed lately I worry I may misscarry. I have the worst stomach pains today due to all of this.

I recently got a new car and cannot afford to be unemployed.

I just cannot keep working like this :(

What should I do?

Hi Thermomix ladies,

I've been a bit of a stalker of the thermomix threads and their website lately. I can't afford to buy one, but am seriously thinking of becoming a consultant in order to pay for my own, and to learn how to best use it.

Can anyone please tell me some pros and cons of being a thermy consultant?
Any info would be helpful. I sold party plan perfumes & aromatherapy years ago and while I did well, I did find it emotionally draining and time consuming, so I don't want a career, just to pay off the thermomix and maybe make some extra cash as I go along. I have a 5 months old and a 2.5 year old and I study also, so time commitment will be one night a week.

So.... I have some specific questions. No need to answer any if they're a bit personal about money. But please just tell me anything you think I might need to know.

how many demos are average for you each week?
How long do they take usually, including your preparation work etc?
What is your average sale rate?
Is it possible to have a small income on one demo a week? (I know with my previous party plan thing, it would have been hard to keep business going at that slow pace).
I know people say 'the machine sells itself'.... but really, does it?
What are the incentives for people to book a demo?
Is it difficult to get people to book one?
