When a whistle is not a whistle!

Rate this Entry
I was in the kitchen washing the dishes and listening to the radio, (the only time I seem to be able to listen to music is when I'm in the kitchen cleaning or cooking). This song came on and I started humming along, by the end of the song I had caught on to some of the lyrics and was merrily singing along. Well when I say I caught on to the lyrics I didn't really catch on to the lyrics until the song was over and I realised just what I had been singing. Let me give you a few lines:

'Can you blow my whistle baby, whistle baby? Let me know ...... just put your lips together and you come real close'

Talk about suggestive! I don't think I need to spell out what the song is really about. I almost fell over when I realised and it was only 5 o'clock in the evening. The song is called 'Whistle' by Miami rapper Flo Rida and is about some quite adult activities albeit disguised by sugar coated lyrics - barely disguised I might add.

So what happens when your littlies, tweens or teenagers are with you when this song, or any inappropriate song comes on the radio. Do you ignore it and hope that your kids are still innocent enough not to realise what its about or do you turn it off? Do you discuss it with your kids and if so what do you say? My little boy is not even 1 year old yet and I'm already thinking about these awkward conversations. Should these songs only be able to played after a certain time - say 9 o'clock, I don't think this would be such a bad idea. What do you think?

Well, my 4yo daughter started singing " I'm sexy and i knowit... i got passion in my pants....." -LMFAO, and i almost fell over, one of the kids at kinder sings it and she picked up on it, we told her it's a rude song and luckily there is a elmo kids version on youtube and we told her that's how the song really goes.....
