What's on in Brisbane this weekend: 25-27 May 2012
Keen to get out and explore the great indoors this weekend? Here's some ideas to soak up your weekend:
QPAC has plenty going on this weekend, with Hi-5 bringing some holiday spirit to rainy Brisbane. Tickets for all shows are $39.90 per person, unless you are under 18mths when you can get in for free! Book at qtix.
If you're looking for something a little more cultured, Opera Australia begins its season of The Magic Flute this weekend. A blaze of colour and spectacle, this mesmerising production will bring joy to your heart and set children's imaginations soaring. Tickets start at only $60 so book now at qtix. The season is only open till June 8, so hurry!
Or if you would just prefer to stay inside and cosy up in front of a classic movie, then Event Cinemas is the purr-fect place to be. This week's Disney Animated Family Classic movie is The Aristocats. Don't be a sourpuss – go and see it! Session times and bookings are here.
If you don't mind a little rain on your parade, then get a taste of country air on Sunday 27 May at the Dayboro Day Festival and Dayboro Antiques Collectibles Fair. Entry to the festival is free, but you'll need to pay extra for a helicopter ride (oh, yes there is!) Park for free at the showgrounds and ride the shuttle bus to the fair. Easy peasy.
A little closer to home is the Green Heart Fair at 7th Brigade Park, Chermside which has more free-ness than you could poke a native stick at: FREE entry, FREE entertainment (including Mental as Anything, and Dorothy the Dinosaur – something for the adults, something for the kids), FREE native plants, cooking demonstrations, face-painting, rock-climbing and heaps of great competitions. Cycle there and you could win a family bike package worth $2000!
If you can't make it to Chermside then perhaps get yourself to Botanic Gardens, Mount Coot-tha for the No Dig Gardening and Seasonal Planting workshop (phone Claire Ward on 0403 935 014 to book), or over to Enoggera Reservoir for a supervised nature walk (bookings essential - 3512 2300 or email CWN.bookings@derm.qld.gov.au).
