What's on in Brisbane this weekend: 18-20 May 2012 (It's all Greek to me!)

Dominating the Brisbane calendar this weekend is the plate-smashing Paniyiri Festival at Musgrave Park and The Greek Club. Gorge yourself Hellenic on delish honey-puffs and haloumi then shake off the calories by taking part in the world record attempt for the world's longest Zorba! There's plenty of music, dance, cooking demonstrations, cultural lectures, and eating competitions (!) to indulge in, plus a special Kids Zone for the littlies. More details on the festival website.

The Brisbane Lions are hosting a public training session on Saturday morning from 9.45-10.45 at The Gabba, so take the kids along (perhaps the kiddies can give the boys a few tips on winning while you're there!)

Disney's Animated Family Classics Festival continues with Bambi at Event Cinemas. All tickets are only $8, so be a deer and treat the whole family. Tickets can be purchased in advance online.

Redcliffe will be hosting the annual Kitefest at Clontarf this weekend. Children can make their own kites, or bring one along with you. Arts and craft stalls will be there for you to browse on the ground, while the sky will be home to mega-kites and a Yak-52 aerobatic display (daily). More information is on the Kitefest 2012 website.

The Ipswich Show promises plenty of sideshow fun and games. The action begins today, so visit the website to find out how much fun you're missing out on.

The Abbey Museum in Caboolture is celebrating National Archeaology Week with its Big Dig Day on Saturday 19 May. Toddler Dig sessions are available all day (no bookings required) or there are limited places available for the older kids and adults. A great way to get hands-on with the kids.

And if that's not all, horticulturalist Claire Bickle is hosting a workshop at Grange Library to teach families how to keep chickens in your backyard, and the Queensland Pioneer Steam Railway has one place left on its Steam Driver Experience day (Sunday).

Have a busy weekend!
