The Winter Weight Gain
As the cooler and wetter weather arrives the desire for comfort food seems to increase as well as our weight - with the average weight gain being around the 4kg mark over the winter months.
But just because the weather isn't fantastic it doesn't mean that you need to gain weight.
Firstly warming and comforting food don't need to be fattening. Of course there are lots of high fat comfort foods such as pies and curries - but there are also lots of healthy alternatives which are just as tasty and satisfying.
I love to make lots of hearty and hunger busting soups in winter and pack them full of chick peas and lentils which give you a big fibre and protein hit to keep the hunger at bay and there are so many recipes you can include them in.
Secondly, just because it is cold outside, it doesn't mean you have to let your exercise slip. If it is just cold you can wrap up with hats, ear muffs and gloves and go for a big walk with your baby/children and if it is raining there are heaps of exercises that you can do indoors too such as squats (these are the best exercise you can do as it uses the largest muscle group and burns all over body fat), dancing, core work on the floor, marching on the spot and lifting hand weights - all of which can be done across your day rather than all at once in one go.
Plus getting a good exercise DVD or using something like the Wii Fit is excellent over winter and can be done when your kids are having a sleep and we also have heaps of advice on the Lose Baby Weight website too about winter foods and exercise if you need some more help.
